The one spread by diseased chickens is not nearly as scary as the one spread person to person, even though the fatality rate might be lower.

They're both scary. The H7N9 seems to have limited person-to-person spread, but we still don't know, really, how people are catching it to begin with. Heaven help us if these diseases become contagious.

No what I’m saying is that when the quad annual panic disease hits and every single time the global kill rate is less than regular old every day flu (in fact less than regular old every day flu in just America generally) that’s clear evidence that the panic was unfounded.

Or, as in the case of SARS, clear evidence that the public health measures outlined by the CDC and the WHO and acted on by public officials actually worked to keep us from a horrible pandemic. But, yeah, you take the result of these successful efforts to contain the disease as proof that we never needed to bother.

You throw around these fatality rates like they have meaning. Problem is they don’t, it’s another part of the lie. Those rates are based only on KNOWN cases, we have no idea how many people get the illness and shake it off without even bothering to go to the doctor. I don’t know if I’ve ever had the flu, because my cold/flu like symptom never get bad enough for me to go the doctor, so I never get diagnosed.

I know exactly what the fatality rates mean. I read the case studies, the genetic analyses of these viruses, and the epidemiological studies. I probably read dozens of medical articles every week; the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report is on my must-read list.

Contrary to your belief, there are studies done to determine the rate of asymptomatic or mild cases of disease--the cases that don't end up at the doctor's office or in the hospital. A blood test can determine if someone has had a mild case. So we actually do have a pretty good idea of how many people get sick.

No my position is exceedingly SENSIBLE. I’ve looked at the evidence, and the evidence is these pandemic panics are built on LIES. They happen too regularly (pretty much one for every presidential term) with too regular an influx of money to the budget, and we always win. That just doesn’t add up, there’s no way we’re both so unlucky to have these problems show up every few years AND so lucky that we always manage to contain it with minimum death every single time. Your position has the contradiction, your is the one that has to believe we’re constantly on the razor edge of being wiped out by a new variant of an old disease but always manage to pull out the miracle save every time.

That sounds like the same kooky stuff I can see on any number of quack websites. They always contain some alternate reality sciency-sounding but non-scientific screeds, along with a good sampling of conspiracy about the government, big pharma, and whatever else they want to conspiracy monger about--oh, and if you buy their products, they promise they'll cure you of anything. Sorry, but that kind of quackery/conspiracy theory mix just doesn't appeal to me.

My position is the one of science and fact. I’m the one pointing out the fact that the death tolls for these things is always minor, and that it’s general science that’s put us in a position to be in a post pandemic world. Yours is the position that lacks both. You have to point to made up fatality rates that ignore the large part of unknown data and ignoring the fact that every one of these panics has been a bust. Pandemic alarmists and global warming alarmists are really the same people, people addicted to fear and desperately ignoring the data that shows their fear has no basis in fact.

Really? Tell me about your medical background, will you? What's your medical specialty?

Of course, I *am* a medical professional. Every "made-up" fatality statistic I have communicated is readily available public knowledge. You are welcome to read the medical literature for yourself. At www.pubmed.org (the medical literature database), you can look up h5n1 (5204 articles), h7n9 (14 articles), or SARS coronavirus (3504 articles). I suggest starting with review articles, because they distill the information that you would otherwise have to read dozens or hundreds of articles to find. The CDC website also has good information. Unlike the pseudoscience conspiracy theory sites, these medical websites don't try to sell you anything. And medical professionals receive no money for publishing their research.

It’s clear at this point you just want to believe the lies. Congrats, you’re a dupe. The science is there, YOU yourself have pointed to the evidence, YOU showed how they are lying to you. sorry you can’t understand what you said. Have fun with your idiotic paranoia. Bye.

I think enough US bio research labs have created an altered pig flu to make person to person contact a reality.

You might recall we recently had a big “bio-ethics” argument on whether the results of these experiments should be published and the “bio-ethics” mob won over the “science haters.” They are not only creating deadly viruses, they are publishing all about it.
