Va is the same with showing a concealed weapon, but thankfully we don’t need a permit to carry loaded in a vehicle’s console or glove box.

Surprised to hear TX had a law like that. Here in liberal WA we have no such restriction. Maybe Texas ISN’T the best place next to Heaven like we hear so much about here at FR.

When approaching the TEXAS State Line do we put our concealed guns back on the rear window gun rack as we cross into another State whose guns laws differ?

It could have been something like a close vote originally. To get one or two extra votes, maybe some legislator needed this “cover” to get reelected. So it was included and the law got through.

For everyone else, it was: Get the main part passed and we’ll clean it up later.

Might be standard politics. That is, messy politics. Half of a loaf now. Hopefully, the second half later.

The job still got done.

Previously, people licensed to have concealed handguns could only carry the type of pistol they used during their training and qualification.

The new bill allows license holders to carry any type of handgun, regardless of what category of weapon they used to qualify.

Here is the problem when reporters who are ignorant of both firearms and of the law try to write a report. First, you get in ignorant and incorrect statement. The law did not allow the license holders to carry "only the type of weapon they used in qualification" as stated in the article. The law designated two "levels" of the CHL: 1. Revolver only; and 2 Semi-Auto. The "revolver only" license means pretty much exactly what it says - you are only licensed to carry a revolver. If you qualified with a revolver, you got a revolver only license. The Semi-auto license allowed the holder to carry EITHER semi-auto or revolver. If you qualified with a Semi-auto, you got a Semi-auto license which allowed carrying of either semi-auto or revolver. It would appear this revision to the law is doing away with the distinction so that a CHL (Concealed Handgun License) means you can carry a CONCEALED HANDGUN without distinguishing between revolvers or semi-autos. GOOD CHANGE to the law.

In Nevada you could carry any revolver, but you had to demonstrate proficiency with every make model and caliber for semi-automatics. If you had a Colt 1911, an officer’s model, and a Kimber, you had to shoot all three. The bar for demonstrating proficiency is set really low, but it was still odd.

Georgia, my state, doesn’t make any distinction at all to apply for a CCW which I’ve had going on 20 years. The premise is ludicrous, actually. They don’t make a driver drive all types of cars, nor should they.

Imagine my disappointment when the instructor told me that I couldn’t carry my MP5 in a tactical rig.

You had to re-qualify after each purchase? Did they charge each time?

You’ll get a kick out of this. In his novel, ‘Salem’s Lot’ Stephen King describes a Maine town having a major vampire problem.
A town deputy is gobbled-up by one and the novels main character and another find his .38 service revolver.
“It’s OK,” says our hero. “The safety’s on.”

King released a short manifesto entitled “Guns” not long ago, when the dhimmis were wearing their hair shirts. A “nonfiction essay on gun control.”
Raising the next question: why was I reading Stephen King? Well, I was forced to, by, uh, rogue underlings ....

Alaska, you own a gun, carry it anyway you want. Alaska is Texas’s big brother.

You have to go back if you decide to add a gun to your concealed permit. The company that ran my class had a special deal for add ons, but I can’t remember what the county charged to add on. It is much easier to borrow a gun if you are thinking of carrying it in the near future.

The law was pretty restrictive limiting the user to ONLY the type of firearm they trained with and used to obtain the license. This just relaxes that restriction as it should.

It wasn't really that restrictive IMO, in that there were only two classes, revolvers, and semi-autos.

I think it's a good move. Next step is to remove the need for a permit to exercise our constitutional rights, be they open or concealed.

Shouldn’t have been restricted in the first place.
