Those first two sentences suggest a belief in what is now being called "Common Core." Have you heard about it? Like it?
The assertion in the last sentence is new to me. Just when was this a practice in the U.S.?
And that last paragraph of yours is just sheer hogwash. I would think that there are plenty of men and women recently graduated from college who have common sense, knowledge of the English language, and problem-solving skills. All categorical statements are false...even this one.
Maybe she doesn't have a credit card because she doesn't want to live on credit and she doesn't feel like a real person because she has not yet been able to find a job?

I believe it is worse than that, automation is eliminating more factory jobs, even in China compared to offshoring. And I’m an IT guy but I still worry that we are automating too much. Not everyone can be an engineer or.doctor, but they should have meaningful jobs too

Why, indeed, I suspect there are plenty of recent graduates who have all of those qualities, and I even know some. I used the term “glut”, which is not the same as saying that all recent college graduates are as I described.

And, since retirement, my husband I have done more manual labor than ever. I have always done housework, but now, with a much bigger property, we do an awful lot of yard work.
