Much more than one might suspect. For example, the US Geological Survey has (in the past at least) been on the forefront of science research in mineral natural resources, surface water, groundwater and water quality. I've already seen reports by them that refer to droughts as being caused by man-caused climate change.

More chilling, given the left-wing bent of the department, is the BLM which has jurisdiction for permitting coal mining, and oil-gas drilling on federal lands onshore and offshore. Permits to drill are likely to be slowed further because the agency would be following their leader's admonition by slowing fossil fuel production.

Interesting parallel: in that 1977 Time Ice Age magazine, it has a little spot on the top wondering how the character of Frank Burns from M*A*S*H will leave the show. Interesting because Frank was irrational, inept, unwilling to allow other differing opinions, and rather stupid. His departure from the movie was in a straightjacket - in the T.V. show he went crazy and pursued Hot-Lips even though she had moved on to another beau.
