Generally I clean or wash as needed things that come from the market place, and my own hands as I prepare food, because marketplace items, too, can get handled in unknown ways. For that reason a bottle of regular rubbing alcohol sits on my kitchen counter. Wipe the can top, then open the can. I wouldn’t sweat too much about folks wanting to be civic minded and bringing bags. There’s something to be said in the way of wise stewardship, for not letting whole bags litter the open landscape (planned landfills are generally good stewardship). The new bags are made so sunlight will make them break down and that isn’t a bad thing of itself, now that would be perfected if the handle loops did not pull off quite so easily when the bag is used as intended.
Kauai used to be kind of an old school holdout. Laid back and not PC. I loved to dive there, the dive shop owner would kick back and have a beer with you afterward. I was back a couple of years ago and it's getting way too touristy.
“Yes”
Stumps’em every time.
I always ask them to double-bag, and they do.
Problem solved. . .and easy to carry by gripping multiple plastic bags by their handles as opposed to shuffling bags in my arms. . .bags that tear when damp from cool/dewy items.
It is unmitigated arrogance to think the gravity of the human masses, as insignificant (in terms of scale with an EARTH) and as recently technologically limited (on a geophysical scale) have tipped the balance towards anything.
Mother Nature, in one Krakatoa, one Pinatubo, Icelandic volcanos, even a couple of Vesuvius eruptions, Mt St. Helens et al dwarf the pitiful makings of mechanized humanity....it is absurd in the arrogance.
One thing I do not understand is when people buy fresh fruit or vegetables don't thy put them in those thin plastic bags that are on rolls? That is what I do
IOW it's their own damned fault.
The Left engages in Lysenkoism, not science.
I can tell you the answer: paper bags have cockroaches in them, get the plastic
I’ve been seeing notices like this for some months now, and I don’t “get” it. How do these reused bags contaminate the groceries? I somebody sneezing on them between shopping trips? Storing them next to the toilet?
Aren’t most of the groceies already in some kind of wrapper, can, box? Even a contaminated bag isn’t going to contaminate food that is wrapped, is it?
My biggest problem with reusable bags is that I always forget to bring them in the store... I buy most of my food at Sam’s, or Costco, and used their boxes when necessary. I reuse the plastic bags from the hardware store in my wastebaskets and the paper bags from the grocery in my garbage can.
but the watermelons are tooo busy patting themselves on the back to care
I’ve weighed the plastic gallon jug milk comes in, and comapred it to a typical grocery stor plastic bag.
Ratio: 1 gallon jug = 13 plastic bags.
Conclusion, milk should be sold in bulk, you know a 5,000 gallon tank with a ‘fill your own jug spigot”.
That is what I was thinking too. Unless people buy fresh fruit and vegetables and don’t put them in those thin plastic bags
I love plastic bags but they are not allowed in San Mateo either. Could you tell me where on Amazon you source yours out I would love to buy some.
Exactly
You can’t saave the world with your stupid milk jug!!
I drink 5 gallons of whole milk a week and trash the plastic bottles and plan to buy a lifetime supply of plastic bags before they ban them and eventually put all of them in the trash for the landfill!!!
My understanding from the article is that no one knows what the users of the bags does with them when they get home.
They may store them in an unsanitary place, use them for other things. Then, when they're put on the counter in the store other shoppers can pick up the dirt.
It's a good point.
Lol! Same here!
I’ve got you beat hands down.
I toss my aluminum cans with pride!
PLUS I keep the house very warm in winter.
So there!
