Wow right around my neighborhood, that is awesome. The Eastbay use to be conservative until the liberals started moving here from Berkley and other liberal cities in the Bay Area. Glad to hear something positive.

This anti smoking rules is getting so stupid by the minute. Here at my apartment complex the manager placed no smoking signs yet the manager and other tenants are smoking where they shouldn’t. I’m tired of smelling their cigarettes however I am against government telling anyone what or where to do it.

As for the bags, if bags are used the liberals complain about the trees, if use bags they complain about the plastic. We might as well develop a kangaroo pouch on our stomach to carry our groceries.

More power to him. Seattle enacted a bag ban a little over a year ago and there’s a movement afoot to do it statewide. I was already taking my own shopping bags about half the time. Lots of people were.
The smoking thing really gets me. I’m a non smoker, but it’s the principle of the thing. I don’t think the dangers of “secondhand smoke” have been proven. They want to bans smoking in parks in King Co., and have disgusting billboards, etc. about it. Hello! Parks are OUTdoors. Smokers pay taxes to support parks, too.

Actually hazards to marine life is cited as one of the reasons for the bag bans.

Got me. I don’t see the right to smoke or use plastic bags in the constitution. But if he claims it’s a constitutional issue it must be...

Apparently Justin Wedel is more of a man than I had given him credit for.

Walnut Creek City Council has been a bag of loonies for a long time. My wife worked there for 15 years, and there was no end to the crazy stuff she would come home with.

.
Can’t imagine why you’re here!

You want government telling you what kind of bag to use?

Or if you can smoke on the street?

Bizzare.

That’s not what he said. He said it’s up to VOTERS to decide on the issues, not government.

Falling ice cubes are far more of a hazard to marine life than plastic bags.

How much marine life do you suppose there is in Walnut Creek?

I don’t want either of those things, and they are an infringement on our freedom, but it’s not a Constitutional issue if a local government passes those laws. It might be if the Feds did.

Wow, I grew up in Walnut Creek, and people with your control freak attitude used to be shunned.

I’m no smoker, but I sure can’t see any reason to mess with them over second hand smoke, which is absolutely harmless unless you’re a marxist.

You do not understand that rights to do ordinary things are reserved to the people?

Marxists have to create false hazards to rationalize their control freak legislation.

Its time for that crap to stop.

Under proposition 65 of the state of California, your mere existence may cause cancer. The 49 other states have decided that California is the land of fruits, nuts, and flakes, and are not to be taken seriously under any circumstances. Prove us otherwise.

I have no problem with free people, freely voting and will support the legislation if they happen to win. (they won’t) However, several here have suggested that representative voting is an incorrect way of in-acting laws; that’s a goofy notion as we live in a representative republic.

It’s goofier still to invoke the Constitution against a representative republic law.

There are things over which government at any level has no authority.

Rights to do ordinary, everyday things define most of those things.

People exercising their everyday rights is not an issue for “representative government.”
