Some folks calling themselves anything are dumb as rocks. It’s a condition that’s going around.
Wrong.
Constitutionalism = libertarianism
According to Ronald the great, at the heart of conservatism is libertarianism.
I think you just proved my previous post.
did he say packerfile?
The problem with Libertarians is the same as with Republicans and Democrats. None are what they used to be.
Republicans have morphed into RAT-lite, Democrats into socialist/communist/Marxists and Libertarians into LemmmeHavMyDrugsAnLeaveMeAlone.
Sooner or later you have to decide to quit voting for Tyrants no matter what brand they have on. For many on this forum it was John McCain, for others Mitt Romney and it appears for yet more it may be Chris Christie. You cannot expect a more principled party to emerge if you ask the ones with principles to abandon theirs.
When the GOP stops blaming voter and begin to run real conservatives with principles that ensconce our sacred Liberty where it belongs they might begin to win again. That's the fight that's taking place behind the scenes in many areas.
Is one of the reasons that the R's keep losing elections. Many people (including some who consider themselves loosely Christian) are afraid of guns and conservative Christianity. The libs and media will always jump on this (Roe vs. Wade style) and use it to split moderates from the base.
"with a chainsaw marked "Budget Tool""
Is the best hope that we have. We need a candidate that hammers it home and sticks to making fiscal responsibility his focus. Don't discuss immigration. Don't discuss abortion. Just talk about reducing spending.
The world is full of pol's like Henry Clay and the lesson to learn from him is that it doesn't matter how right you are about where to steer the ship if you are never allowed a turn at the wheel.
Winning hearts and minds with insults won't work.
No, I did. He’s defended and lauded “the lifestyle”.
Google: “Boortz homosexuals”
Oh, I know his stance ..just never heard that particular term before .
“Just talk about reducing spending.”
BINGO!
But that “boring” stuff, doesn’t make the news. Only controversy does. Plus, with controversy, you keep the folks distracted so they don’t watch where the money’s going.
It’s how BOTH Dems and Repubs have been bilking the system to their own advantage.
The desire to get these types out is what makes me like the TP.
This.
The Democrats have just as big a splitin their party between the Occupy style progressives and the Liberal Wall St Corporatists. But they both find common ground and suppress their differences and win the elections that put their philosophies into positions of power.
In a perfect world Tea Party Conservatives would support Chris Christie because they’d accept ideological differences as acceptable to get a Republican into a blue state governorship. Likewise the GOPe would throw it’s support behind a social conservative like Cuccinelli who is electable in a purple state like VA.
It’s coalition politics and while both sides may not get everything they want, they’ll get a lot more than if the other side is in power.
Now having said that, the unfaithful players right now are the GOPe and petty jerks like McCain, Graham, Christie, Priebus and Rove. Their failure to support Cuccinelli was deplorable, considering that many of the “moderate” GOP victories in recent years (Christie, Brown in MA) have come with significant Tea Party support.
just never heard that particular term before .
So, do you like it or not?
Not when it comes to the Libertarian Party. It is self interest agenda before common sense. Where in ANY tea party agenda do they call for blanket legalization of drugs?
Maybe I painted with too big a brush and did not go specific to the Party and not the concept, but just like the Progs claimed the moniker of Liberalism because the term Progressives had turned toxic, so did the Libertarian Party to claim libertarianism to advance their agenda.
Screw the libertarian term for now because of this hijacking and be very specific to Constitutionalism and leave out all the other bastardized monikers.
Constitutionally limited government is not compatible with the nanny state. Most republicans do not want constitutionally limited government, they want a nanny state. I did not leave the party, the party left me.
Yup!
If you mean Constitutional...say "Constitutional".
There are really two flavors of Libertarianism. First, the legal dope, legal prostitution faction that are really just a variation of social Liberals.
Second, the pro-business individual freedom Randian Objectivists. Which are very close to Constitutionalists (or maybe Constitutional Originalists)
The Libertarian term has definitely been corrupted into meaninglessness. As demonstrated by the discussion here and on other threads.
Who mentioned the Libertarian Party? I didn’t.
“Screw the libertarian term for now”
Yes, I suppose Reagan misspoke.
Well, I give it credit for originality and yet falling within the confines of accepted parlance at the same time.
And I far prefer it to the s word ..
“The Libertarian term has definitely been corrupted into meaninglessness”
So have a lot of terms, including conservatism.
