They are still at it, even thought this article already points out that stopping logging didn’t help the spotted owls.’’

Groups sue to stop timber sale

http://www.capitalpress.com/article/20131216/ARTICLE/131219919/1020

“Environmental groups want to stop a logging project in an Oregon national forest that the federal government says is needed to reduce fire risk.

The complaint alleges the logging project will harm the northern spotted owl, which is listed as threatened, as well as the wolverine and Oregon spotted frog, which are proposed for protection under the federal Endangered Species Act. “

I have this vision that pretty soon it will be OK to eradicate people to save spotted owls or some frog somewhere.

We live in kind of a “mid-burb”, surrounded by multi-lane highways, tons of traffic and a lot of businesses. The neighborhood is very wooded as the original builders left a lot of trees plus the trees planted by owners have matured.

We feel lucky to have deer, fox, possum, rabbit and squirrel around (although some can be destructive). Every once-in-awhile, a hawk or owl will swoop up to perch on a limb in ours or a neighbor’s yard. That’s a good moment.

From Wikipaedia:

“The Spotted Owl is similar in appearance to the Barred Owl but has cross-shaped markings on the underparts, whereas the Barred Owl is alternately barred on the breast and streaked on the belly. Barred Owls are larger and grayer than Spotted Owls. In recent years the California and Northern subspecies of Spotted Owl have been displaced by Barred Owls, which are more aggressive, have a broader diet and occur in more varied habitats.[2] Though the two species may hybridize in areas where displacement is occurring, they are quite genetically distinct, for example, differing 13.9% in certain gene sequences”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotted_Owl

IOW 86.1% of their genes are the same.

I’m not disputing your account, but I could find nothing to indicate that barred owls would tackle something that big. Lambs at birth weigh 5-8 lbs..

Spotted owls and barred owls do interbreed...the offspring are known as either “sparred” or “Botted” owls.

Killing Herschel? That's like killing the Free Willie Whale.

They are very similar species. One is out-competing the other. Evolution is occurring.

Yep, these enviro-nazi groups with their radical members will never give up. Many don’t want man to lift a finger to help the environment or to use the natural resources.

The nutcases are even against cutting timber after a fire has burned through, they want it to stay there and rot because that’s what takes place in nature. They’re even against thinning dead trees after beetle kills to prevent fire and try controlling beetles. They’re Insane!

Some of these nutcases are for thinning the human population to prevent our incursion into the environment animal habitat. They post in comments after enviro articles in newspapers and websites, I like to post and say they should volunteer to be first.

They don’t fly off with them. They just kill the lambs that are one to two days old, and sort of do a partial decapitation. The brains are gone along with the tounge and eyes. It’s not a pretty sight.

IOW 86.1% of their genes are the same.

Doesn't matter. The biological definition of "species" is whether or not the progeny are viable. If they are, it is the same species. The law does not authorize "preserving diversity" within the species, including what the illegal treaties that supply them said "authority" might imply. Hence, the "sub-species" listings or "distinct population segements" we have seen are blatant usurpations of power.

I am agreeing with you — they are also trying to distinguish between Northern Spotted Owl, Californis Spotted Owl and Mexican Spotted owl.

The so-called environmentalists are out of control — useful construction project are being prohibited or stopped because of some obscure frog might be there — I think there was something on FoxNews that they used that excuse, even though the particular frog hasn’t been seen in the area for a hundred years. Not to mention situation, where the species are plentiful in a neighboring state, but just because there aren’t a lot of them in one state, they are declared endangered.

George, this is just another case of our godless government thinking that they have the right to control the animals that chose to live in North America.

The so-called environmentalists are out of control —

Not at all. They are simply trained and supported to do the bidding of their corporate fascist masters.

useful construction project are being prohibited or stopped because of some obscure frog might be there —

That's the whole idea. It pumps up the value of investments elsewhere. The foundation beneficiaries then repeat the great game, over and over.

I think there was something on FoxNews that they used that excuse, even though the particular frog hasn’t been seen in the area for a hundred years.

They've gone farther than that, protecting land that "might be" useful as "critical habitat."

BTW, I wrote and published a book twelve years ago on the economics of enviro-racketeering and what to do about it, but this article explains the motives and means as well. There are two more written to explain the legal underpinnings in treaty law and how the necessary capital was collectivized.

The service is spending $3.5 million over six years to remove 3,600 barred owls

Wow. That's about $1,000 per dead owl.

Wouldn't it just be easier and cheaper to place a $50 bounty on them?
