Walmart and McDonald’s aren’t supposed to be careers unless you move up the ladder.

Think strategy.

How many Walmart workers will vote to cut their lifeline?

The GOP is killing itself. But most don't seem to care.

Obama waived a lot of the requirements from the reforms from 1996.

Don’t care if it is Walmart Kmart Target McDonalds Burger King etc. Unless you are a Manager, Department Manager etc you will receive miniumum wage because it is a MINIMUM WAGE JOB! These are entry level jobs. Being a cashier is not meant to be a fulltime career living wage job. Bagging fries is not going to buy you a home. Grow up. You want more you have to be more..

Love your tagline...lol!

You're telling people to MYOB, yet you post a thread chastising Wal-Mart for low wages?

Where's your screed about restaurants, where waiters depend on tips for their living?

Idiotic premise. Its not the fault of WalMart that we give food stamps and benefits to people who work retail jobs that are largely dead end anyway.

My sister has worked there for 20 years and is buying a home for the second time. She took the initiative and took some business management courses and raised her value to the company.

“Other than you, I never heard of a freeper thinking Elizabeth Warren was the voice of conservative economics. Odd.”

My conservatism is *SOCIAL*. Opposition to same-sex “marriage” and glorification of homosexuality as normal. Oppoistion to unrestrained immigration, legal or illegal, and H1B visas that take jobs away from native-born STEM grads (I hate the term STEM but I’ll use it here to save time). Understanding of how God shapes the fate of nations (he destroyed the USSR, and may lay the smack down on the West if we keep going down the wrong moral path). So before you all scream to get me off the forums, at least take this into consideration. Thanks.

Do you get ALL your news from Democrat politicos? Are you a union fat-cat, or do you just parrot their talking points for them?

Freedom, capitalism, common sense and tyranny can seem like “Klingon-eze” to those who have drank the “It’s-rich-whitey’s-fault” koolaide.

I think you’re on the wrong website, pinko.

Today is January 6th. The start of the Dems campaign on inequality/economic fairness (i.e. communism) - to distract from Obozocare. So the trolls will be out in force.

The purpose of business is to make a profit. Not provide a living wage.

---

They are not mutually exclusive.

They are when your labor pool is unskilled, and you are in competition with other places which also try to deliver rock-bottom prices on stuff. I notice none of these hit-pieces mention Target or the other similar stores.

People can start at WalMart, learn valuable job skills (you would be amazed at how many people need to learn that showing up for work, on time and sober, is a requirement for advancement), and then use that work experience to qualify for a higher-paying job elsewhere.

I want a politician to define ‘livable wage’ for me.

“Livable’ for who? a high school drop out, unmarried, with kids ? a high school graduate living with their parents?
a retiree with a paid-off house?

...members of OUR Walmart, a union-backed worker group, chose Black Friday to walk off the job and campaign for their rights.

Employees certainly have a RIGHT to ask for higher wages. They do NOT have a RIGHT to higher wages.

Wal-Mart has long been criticized for its pattern of offering wages that force its workers to take advantage of public-assistance programs.

No one is forced to take advantage of public-assistance programs, and government intervention is what suppresses the economy such that better jobs are hard to find. We have to discard the notion that the government can force prosperity upon society. Prosperity must come from growth, which requires successful competition.

The Chinese and Irish immigrants who worked for railroads in the late 19th century have long since moved on to better opportunities. The reason that Wal-Mart is able to pay these low wages is 12% or 15% systemic unemployment. If business was booming and employment wasn't regulated in a manner which penalizes the employer, businesses would be scrambling to find workers and the competition would give workers the leverage to obtain higher wages and benefits. IF unemployment was at 3%, rather than current levels.

But more government regulation will only exacerbate this downward spiral.

You cannot ethically force someone else to pay you more. Free market transactions are voluntary - requiring a willing buyer and a willing seller.

My cousin doesn’t have kids but is special needs and has been working for Wal-Mart now for decades. I doubt whether he has risen about greater. He’s a great guy, lives in a group home, and drives his own car (paid for). He’ll end up with a pension and I’m sure he has some government subsidies. Knowing his now deceased parents however, I’m pretty sure he has a trust from their estate that also supports him. Wal-Mart is his life and I’ll always defend Wal-Mart because of that.
