Three-year survivor here of stage two. Glad to hear you’re doing well. It’s always encouraging to read posts by those of you who’ve survived longer.
To anyone out there who wonders why famous people go public with this kind of news: Some of us are glad they do because it’s helpful to see how they’re fighting it. That said, it’s understandable that other people opt to keep the information private.
I mean Tom. I was thinking of Jennings.
Congratulations and I hope you continue to do well. Thanks!
Thank you for those kind words, KAC. They are really too kind.
I was blessed to be able to survive a very rare and malignant bone cancer in my sacrum and lower spine to this point...when they only treatment was to cut it all out.
It was a very difficult six months, far away from home at MD Anderson and in very intensive rehab afterward.
We have the best Medical service available in this country...and Obama is destroying it. I found that places like MD Anderson, the Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins, and others will not be “preferred providers” under any Obama Care plans. They say they are too expensive.
Well of course they are expenbsive. They treat the most rare and dangerous kinds cancer and other diseases and do a GREAT job. Anyhjow, my continuing care and checkups, after this year, will not be able to include MD Anderson. In Idaho where I live, they have no record of EVER treating a Chordoma Patient, and until me, had not so much as ever seen one. I will have to find someone to learn about it and work with me...but it is in God’s Hand, as it has been from the beginning.
Anyhow, the road has not been easy...and it will be difficult for the rest of my days. But I am grateful for this road. it is the one the good Lord mapped out for me. And despite the difficulties, He has blessed me richly as I have traveled it.
I have been able to go back to work (though accomodated into another position which I could do), prepare for my wife’s and my retirement, continue to help my own kids, get to know three more new grandkids out of a total of nine, and enjoy the lfie I do have.
I do not like Brokhaw’s politics...but I do not wish this type of ill on anyone. Multiple Myloma is a very difficult disease. Initially, they thought it was what I had. I pray Brokhaw and his family can be comforted and relieved of as much pain as possinble...and that he takes the time to spend as much time as he possible can with his family and loved ones.
For those interested, here’s a journal of my own story:

Jeff, as always you have and will continue to be an inspiration to many here including myself.
I am currently in Remission for a second time from Leukemia. Whenever it begins to weigh heavy on mind, I think of you and my Late B-I-L Morris and the trials both of you endured with much more serious Illnesses than I am afflicted with.
When I saw a Post from another FReeper saying he/she would not attempt using Chemotherapy should they become afflicted, I felt the need to express to them how fortunate we are in this day and age to be able to access care that has helped people live on, including myself.
Anyway, just know that you are always in my thoughts. Take care and God Bless. Maybe someday I will make my way to Idaho and pay you a visit, by Invitation of course. LOL
Well said. :-) May you enjoy many more blessings to come.
