Yep. They came and took away my XP box and left a Windows 7 box in it’s place. I’m struggling.

I worked in a shop that used 98 a while ago. When we upgraded to NT based Win2k, one huge problem went away: Memory leaks. I HAD to reboot my 98 machine every two days at the absolute least. You could actually watch the memory drop as you opened word, closed it, opened it and closed it. Each time you started with less memory than the last time.

Ever since Win2k I’ve liked every other release. And one of my recording desktops with Win2k, Sonar version 1 and Winamp is a workhorse to this day. Got it back in the late 1990’s.

They can keep using the old boxes if they want. It’s not like MS is going remote delete the OS from them. But it’s a 13 year old OS, it was gonna get EOLed eventually, should have been a while ago.

This looks like a great opportunity for Linux. Some of them, like the *buntu’s, make it easy for you to turn your Windows XP into an optionally bootable partition.

Now, that’s a thought!

It won’t stop running you can still use it..you just won’t get anymore patches or tech support for it..basically your on your own if something goes wrong with the OS

So it’s like driving a car after the warrantee expires...

Being closed source it’s a little different from, say, a UNIX being obsoleted.

And if the computers are not modern enough, they might not be able to run the crappy Window 8.1.

8.1 is a better version of Windows 7. All a person has to do is set it up to use the desktop by default.

Well except if it blows a piston you won’t be able to get a third party one to replace it with when Microsoft has discontinued parts.

Big whoop, if I read stuff correctly, it is IE that is most vulnerable and I never use that.

Regardless, I am leaving my well loaded XP machine as a tool to use disconnected from the internet. There are uses for computers beyond websurfing and email, believe it or not.

My new Win 7 machine fills in for the rest and may grow in capability slowly.

Anyway, a pretty witty article. Needed the chuckle.

Yeah, but it’s so cheap that if it ever does, that is when I can replace it. :-P

Why would anyone want to exploit holes in XP at this point. Not enough machines to bother with.

You'd be surprised.
