There you go. And she was from a generation in which girls often were given Spanish names by their Anglo parents (Juanita, Linda, Maria, Carmen, etc.).
A bit like Barney Fife’s early love interest, the never-seen Juanita. ;-)
2 polls from April gave Block the lead
His own internal poll had Block up 46% to 37%
A poll by Brown University had him up by 36% to 31.4%
I would gather we have a very competitive primary.
One guy who posts on another message group who is active in RI GOP politics (elected official) implied the party will pull out the stops for Fung. They’ve apparently gotten out a lot of absentee ballots to the voters and if it appears Block is leading, they’ll give the signal to get as many votes out to Fung as possible.
This seems to be the first time since 1994 there’s been such a competitive primary on the GOP side (which is getting overshadowed by the Dem side). I’m sure the RI Dems are anxious to get an actual one in office, since they haven’t since Bruce Sundlun won his final term in 1992 (and they never held Lincoln Chafee in high regard). It’s too bad Chafee didn’t stay an Independent and ran again, since that would’ve assured a GOP win.
