George W. Bush spent more of the taxpayers hard earned money than any President since Lyndon Johnson.

He REFUSED to halt illegal immigration and close the Mexican Border to it, despite his Oath of Office and legal responsibility to uphold U.S. law.

And worst of all--he set us up for what we have now.

He was incompetent in not answering the rhetoric from the Left, probably because he lacked the wit to do so--or even to know that he must.

--and this from one of his most loyal supporters--who voted for him twice--worked hard for his election and re-election--a life-long Republican--and one who initially nominated him--here on FR--for Mt. Rushmore.

I understand, and I can feel your disappointment in what you said. I personally don't think that he lacked the wit to deal with the left’s attacks. My personal belief is that he thought the best way to deal with the politically motivated lies was to not react, and to govern from above the fray. He was wrong. He's not the only one who has underestimated the power of propaganda.

Yes. He wanted to be above it all. He is high-minded; all the Bushes are; we must give them that.

However--though such decency and integrity are to be valued and emulated and held as a standard to which we should all aspire--and though I deeply respect this in the Bushes and respect the Bushes for it--there are times when such niceties as rising above the fray should and must be held in abeyance.

("However" should not start a sentence, but, if one knows the rules, one might--and sometimes should--ignore the rule. Such is the case for conventions. Such is NOT the case for laws, especially if one is President of the U.S.A.)

We must always keep in mind that people exist who have no respect for civility or its conventions and have no intention of abiding by them.

As a general rule, a man should not place his hands on a woman in anger; however, if a woman were holding an ice-pice at the throat of a child, I would do much more than just place my hands on her: I'd cream her in the head with a rock, for starters!

Here's an example of Bush's inability to comprehend the importance of seizing an important moment: When the outgoing Clinton operatives left their offices vandalized and even pried the W-keys from their typewriters and the Clintons apparently absconded with White House and Air Force I possessions, incoming President George W. Bush made a point of ignoring it all and rising to a higher level. This was a mistake. He should have made a point of revealing it all to the public.

I think also that his ignoring the porous Mexican Border was done for high-minded purposes, but it was a mistake. He was also ignoring his responsibility to uphold U.S. law.

In both cases, I think he simply didn't understand that there are times to disregard the conventions of civility.

It's as though he was so hung-up on etiquette that he didn't understand that there is a time and place for throwing tea in someone's face--that though one should always thank the hostess for a lovely evening, there could come a time when circumstances demand that one tell her to go to hell.

I couldn’t agree more. Great comments, and IMHO spot on. The Republicans are often like the aggrieved gentleman who challenges his adversary to a duel, and abides by the rules (e.g. take 10 steps, turn around, and then shoot). His adversary (the left), takes 2 steps, runs to hide behind a rock, and starts shooting - along with the 10 other people he’s got hiding behind buildings and rocks (e.g. the MSM).

Excellent!

That describes the Republicans--and the Democrats--perfectly.
