There was a Resident at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital a few years ago who never went to Med School and got into the residency program. Needless to say, they now check the credentials better.
He was a psychiatry resident so I guess it was easier to fake it.
6 ARRESTED FOR FAKE MEDICAL DEGREES, INCLUDING 3 KNOWN AS DOCTORS
By RICHARD D. LYONS
Published: July 13, 1984
Six people, three of them working as doctors, were arrested yesterday in the New York City area on criminal charges of possessing fraudulent medical degrees, and the state authorities said about 100 others would face similar charges in the near future.
A seventh indicted person, who was serving the fourth year of a surgical residency at the Cabrini Medical Center in Manhattan, was being sought by the police.
Those arrested included residents in psychiatry, pediatrics and family medicine at Cabrini, as well as at Bellevue and Jamaica hospitals, who were charged by the authorities with paying as much as $20,000 for a fraudulent degree.
Mr. Wood, director of the department’s Office of Professional Discipline, described the indictments as unprecedented in New York State. He said they stemmed from ‘’527 cases of people who are under active investigation’’ as being suspected of possessing fraudulent medical credentials.
University of North Carolina v. Shoemate and Staton, ___ N.C. App. ___, 437 S.E.2d 892 (1994)
Facts:
In January of 1989, Lee H. Shoemate applied for a residency position in psychiatry at The University of North Carolina Hospitals at Chapel Hill using fraudulent credentials and was hired. In July of 1989 Shoemate examined seventeen-year-old Ruby Staton, who went to the hospital emergency room with symptoms of vomiting, gastric pain, and anemia. Shoemate diagnosed the patient as depressed and admitted her to the psychiatric ward.
He later testified at the patients commitment hearing, which resulted in her thirty-day involuntary commitment. Ultimately, the patient was diagnosed with Crohns disease and underwent abdominal surgery. When Shoemate applied to the Board of Medical Examiners for a license in 1990, a background check revealed that he had not attended medical school. He was suspended without pay, and then he disappeared.
Not too far from me is the old Elgin State Hospital. The place was huge, my guess is about one mile square! Over 3,000 patients!
Now all but gone.
Now we have 3,000 more homeless!
My question, was he competent? That would beat two of my recent doctors.
Of course at my age I think pretty much all of them should be carded before buying a drink at my bar.
Most odd.
Whenever my work group was allowed in public, should they meet one of our kind, they sniff like dogs!
’ I went to school with Joe...’
‘I used to work for Hans is he still there?...’
Always the same ritual.
The same for new employees.
He was found out when he said he welcomed all Medicaid patients.
Real doctors would never do that.
"I'm the Ass-Teen" doesn't have a ring to it.
And should have charges brought against him.
The usurper doesn’t know how old he is and changes his age constantly.
Shouldn’t that be a picture of Bill Clinton instead of Barack Obama?
I am reminded of a Robin Williams movie where he played a Gynecologist and had to examine a pregnant Catherine Hegel. “Hop up here in the stirrups and let me examine your volvo!”
“Teen played doctor for at least a month”
Ridiculous!
I stopped playing doctor by the time I was seven or eight (or at least when Tiffany S moved away!)
Off his meds? OK, but what’s the excuse for the hospital staff that was working with the 17 year old? They didn’t notice?
Doesn’t hold a candle to a teen impersonating a president for 6 years.
I know it's wrong and it'll cost me somehow, but I'm with ya on that. If the people around you are just THAT friggin blind or schtoopit...
This kid's got a very promising future in politics. d;^)
(flame away)
My point exactly! And how many of them had kids? You can’t take care of yourself but you can make babies? WE are the insane ones!
