"The half glass of water full of ice cubes that melts will cause the level in the glass to rise, right?"

Nope.

Ice displaces more space than liquid water.

That's why sealed bottles of water that are frozen will burst.

Go ahead - try it.

"I’m confused, how does that answer the question? Maybe this is sarcasm making fun of lefty logic."

Well, that wasn't what I set out to do, but now that you mention it.....

If we were to assume that polar ice was part of the ocean volume, and the polar ice increased, then it would be perfectly logical for the sea level to rise.

Now I'm not a degreed scientist (even though I have slept in some very good hotels in the last year.) I assume that there are more variables to consider, such as the fact that some of the polar ice is covering land and not displacing sea water.

But I'm certain that the Liberal agenda drivers have not thought out the problem with that degree of thoroughness.

Let me save Miami-Dade some money: There is no rise in sea levels happening. This is free, no charge advice, but donations are accepted.

Florida without Miami-Dade? I’m all for the oceans to rise if That hellhole (and Ft. Lauderdale area) goes under the ocean.

http://allpoetry.com/King-Canute Thackeray’s last five stanzas seem not to have been clear enough for the parasites of the political left.

KING CANUTE was weary hearted; he had reigned for years a score,
Battling, struggling, pushing, fighting, killing much and robbing more;
And he thought upon his actions, walking by the wild sea-shore.

. . .

“Might I stay the sun above us, good sir Bishop?” Canute cried;
“Could I bid the silver moon to pause upon her heavenly ride?
If the moon obeys my orders, sure I can command the tide.

“Will the advancing waves obey me, Bishop, if I make the sign?”
Said the Bishop, bowing lowly, “Land and sea, my lord, are thine.”
Canute turned towards the ocean—”Back!” he said, “thou foaming brine.

“From the sacred shore I stand on, I command thee to retreat;
Venture not, thou stormy rebel, to approach thy master’s seat:
Ocean, be thou still! I bid thee come not nearer to my feet!”

But the sullen ocean answered with a louder, deeper roar,
And the rapid waves drew nearer, falling sounding on the shore;
Back the Keeper and the Bishop, back the king and courtiers bore.

And he sternly bade them never more to kneel to human clay,
But alone to praise and worship That which earth and seas obey:
And his golden crown of empire never wore he from that day.
King Canute is dead and gone: Parasites exist alway.

I thought that was what Aquaman did.

Of course imitating Aquaman can make one look pretty ridiculous.

Anybody think it possible that Miami Beach is sinking rather than the ocean rising?

A theory: the weight of all the buildings, roads, and people are compacting the fragile marl and limestone underlying Florida which causes the land to sink slightly as more weight is added, thus giving rise to the “apparent” rise in sea level?

Thank you, frozen water does have a higher displacement.

But, with a higher displacement, it would have a lesser specific gravity, which would make part of the ice cube be above the liquid water level, as with the ice cubes in the glass of water.

Therefore, in my limited understanding of science,the level of liquid water would be less with the ice cubes floating as compared to when they have melted.???????

I’m thinking the same thing ... but by now New York City should have sunk years ago ....

Tell you what.

I’m going to make soup today.

While I’m in the kitchen I’ll take a mixing bowl and put ice cubes in it. They’ll be floating, just like icebergs in the ocean. And I’ll let them melt.

And we’ll see.
Check back later for my empirical evidence.

(This’ll be just like Mr. Wizard! Except that I won’t have an explosion and flour all over my Grandmother’s kitchen.)

No problem for liberals, they'll just change the "law".

Mayor Triton would do better to raise ground levels. The sea is still at sea level, if the water is covering more ground, the ground is sinking.

“The one thing that does affect our climate is our Sun. It affects all the temperatures on Earth. But we can’t control it”

That gives me a “new and fresh” idea; let’s tax subjects for sunshine!

I’ll be over here awaiting my Nobel Peace Prize.

The water level is not affected by ice proportions in bodies of water. Water expands when it freezes. Put your canteen full to the top with water with no lid into your freezer. You will find that water and ice flow out of the top as it freezes and expands. Or you can screw the cap on and the expansion will break the cap or burst the canteen. So you see, that is why 1/10th of an iceberg, or an ice cube, protrude when floating in water. But the result does not change water levels because the water displaced by the portion of the water that is now ice is the same as the amount of water used to make the ice.

Now more water that stays on land as a result of freezing should cause sea levels to drop whereas that land bound ice melting should cause sea levels to rise.
