We stopped a proposed one near us because the infrastructure was already in for stop lights, but 2 others popped up just north of us on the same road.
It is really awful how these stupid round abouts are everywhere. Even little towns. Mount Horeb has a bunch of them (when I visit the Duluth Trading Co. store). They’re everywhere. I try to use different routes to avoid them when possible. I haul a horse trailer sometimes and have to go through 3 round abouts on the south side of Oregon.
That is because it is the stated policy of the DOT (Mark Gottlieb) that no intersection will be improved in Wisconsin unless they consider installing a round about. We avoided one in our neighborhood only because the a few years jprior they had installed the infrastructure for eventual stop lights. The neighbors kicked up a fuss when the round about was proposed and we won because that intersection is still under the jurisdiction of our city. But, other cities and villages that had turned over the ownership of their thoroughfares to the state had no say.
The visual clutter that a round about engenders is mindboggling to me. Count the signs and flags around them some time and then compare it to a 4 way stop, or a stop light.
It is rather difficult to negotiate a round about with a trailer. They also make them so there is a hill in the middle, to avoid people driving across them I am sure, but it makes it hard to see what is coming around the circle.
They are just an expensive dangerous waste of money. That’s our gubermnent at work, helpful as always!
