The “CIA trained” rebels are the same sort of groups that the CIA ‘trained’ in Afghanistan during the Russian occupation.
They gave weapons to those who wanted to take down Assad. Period. Maybe they showed them how to pull the trigger. (Training). And in the same way as that early Osama bin Laden type group in Afghanistan attacked the USA later in their careers, these so-called ‘trained’ rebels also hate the US.

If you watch the documentary above, you'll see it wasn't the "surge" that turned things around in Iraq, after the screw up of not placing experience Iraqis in charge after Husein's ouster. What brought the violence back to acceptable was Pretreaus doling out millions of dollars to the Sunni insurgents - after Obama's indifference/negligence in following up on the situation in Iraq this became ISIS.
