How on earth can anyone copyright phrases used in everyday titles? Government moves slower than a snails pace and somehow congress thinks they can issue individual copyrights to every individual title published as msm news headlines - Fair use laws complicate this issue even further. sorry, I don’t see it - but am not surprised to see Congress wasting time on this.

FYI, I am an intellectual property attorney. Drudge to my knowledge violates no copyright law or, in my humble opinion, any fair trade or trademark law. Methinks this is nonsense.

I had a Supreme Court Justice tell me its over for me, said Drudge. Theyve got the votes now to enforce copyright law, youre out of there. Theyre going to make it so you cant even use headlines.
but he usually rewrites the headlines.
What about facebook, where they copy a photo, headline and first paragraph, exactly as is?
What about google, where they copy everything?

Was waiting for a comment such as yours. I also publish a newsletter and under fair use laws selectively use articles to the advantage of the copyright owners. How Drudge violates any copyright law by simply linking to a news or any source is beyond me. This is nonsense, but rest assured the elected brainless wonders will find a way to screw this up. I hope I am wrong.

Nameing names would help. Most publications claiming copyright protection have a release permission sentence contained in the masthead or index that does allow article reproduction provided attribution and a link is offered as the source.

I appreciate your personal and professional opinion on this issue.
However, legality and constitutionality doesn’t seem to have quite the sway these days.
The White House is orchestrating this copyright review in hopes of stealth resurrection of the FAIR act / SOPA, in my humble opinion.

Also note related concurrent global efforts such as TPP (Asia) and counterpart EU copyright law review of online Internet IP that would adversely impact news article content sharing.
Governments would relish controlling dissemination of comprehensive news and inconvenient content under the guise of protecting IP, even if it has a sude effect of killing off news content creators. News outlets will gladly be leaned on by gov’t to support the certainty of a copyright scheme securing their IP content.
Look at how many Healthcare providers supported Obama care which subsequently drove hospitals and doctor’s practices out of business, and has led to huge consolidation.

Why? We were told they were better than Democrats. Why on earth would we want to do that?
Unless the human garbage that browbeat conservatives here and elsewhere to get these people elected were wrong to begin with. And if thats the case, why are we not also holding THEM to account for lying about why they did it?

As technology continues to rapidly advance, we have a responsibility to ensure that our laws are keeping pace with these developments, Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte said in a statement.
I agree. That's why EVERY SINGLE FEDERAL LAW should have a maximum 10-year sunset, at which time it must be re-authorized.
He explained, To have a Supreme Court Justice say to me its over, theyve got the votes, which means time is limited, he added, noting that a day was coming when simply operating an independent website could be outlawed. That will end [it] for me fine Ive had a hell of a run, said Drudge
Not really. I've seen several times where his headlines aren't the same as the article he links to - more of a pun or short summary. If all his links were that way, there'd be no base for a copyright claim!
Also, I'm rather surprised Google hasn't weighed in on this much at all.. Linking is the main core of their business.

I agree with you. But, then again, courts have making such decisions.

Traitorous legislation aimed at destroying the First Amendment! Hell cannot be made hot enough for the committee members who promote this legislation.Obama said he'd fundamentally transform this country.

Agree. We have gone way beyond our founders dumping tea. I loath this government and will do everything to preserve our republic. Unfortunately a good percentage of retard voters will vote this country into the cesspool if we do not unite and get serious.

If the law changes drastically from Congress, there could be issues, but usually the target is entertainment more than the news.

Yeah, it would put Facebook, Instagram, Reddit and Twitter out of business as well. I wouldn’t worry too much.
