It supposedly makes a bigger stretch cavity but conventional wisdom on wounding is that stretch cavity size is not that important. I guess the proof will be in the pudding.

It may be more than just "stretch" if those fluid streams coming off the nose will lacerate tissue like a pressure washer.

“...creating the massive cavitations and wound channels.” Really? Let's see the comparative data and photographs.

"Fascinating concept of a fluted tip, anyone know if this has been tried/marketed before?" Yes. It is simply the rebirth and rebranding of an old concept and product that failed in the marketplace. The manufacturer finally found a gullible customer.

"Wonder if the nose of the bullet enhances the spinning effect" No, the rotation is imparted by the gun barrel's rifling. Surface irregularities decrease the rotational velocity.

"... any resulting improvement to distance, accuracy, etc?" No. Both are degraded.

"Curious about the weight (implied stopping power)" About a third less than conventional bullets because plastic and copper are both less dense than metallic lead.

"... as well and any change to recoil." Recoil is less because the bullets are both lighter and longer than conventional bullets. The longer bullets decrease inside shellcase capacity which greatly reduces interior ballistic capability. Yes, they are slightly faster than conventional bullets but not so much as to offset the decreased bullet weight. The resulting momentum of the bullets (and resulting recoil) is less than that of conventional bullets. That decreased momentum often times results in function failures in firearms designed for conventional ammunition.

This type of ammunition is designed for fun or training where metallic lead is not allowed in bullets because of health and environmental reasons. It is not suitable for hunting or self defense purposes.

"Hell, maybe this time I’ll actually have to read the article!" Good, but don't let marketing promotion and advertising hyperbola cloud your judgment.

If you desire reliable, life saving ammunition, determine what your local police or the FBI use.

So, the Ruger angle is just a marketing partnership: PolyCase gets a bigger distributor brand name, and Ruger gets dibs on a new product they can’t make. Not a bad move.

Ah, here we go... http://polycaseammo.com and yes they have 9mm. Will have to try some out. I’m suspicious of the low weight though, having recently wasted money on a box of lightweight rounds that couldn’t cycle the G19 action.

Ruger, which is headquartered in Connecticut

Ruger is still behind enemy lines?

I thought they would have vacated the state by now!

"How does it perform on body armor?....anyone know?"

These types of polymer/copper particle bullets were originally designed for military and law enforcement training use against steel targets. When impacting steel they break up into small particles that fall to the ground with out ricocheting or bouncing back towards the shooter.

They will not normally penetrate Level 2A body armor unless launched from a carbine at considerably more velocity than typical of pistols.

"Supply and Demand will dictate price."

Only to a degree. Manufacturing cost is the prime determinate. The manufacturer is not going to decrease price below production cost just to make them sellable.

This product will be in Ruger's 2016 catalog but very unlikely to survive a year due to lack of sales.

Exactly. Supply and demand dictate price. If those can’t equalize to a viable point, the product dies. Supply is dictated by manufacturing costs & other limitations, creating a minimum viable price; demand dictates how high (demand exceeds supply) or low (attract more demand by lowering price) that price is set. If the lowest viable price point is below manufacturing cost, to wit they can’t price it low enough to attract enough buyers and still make a profit over manufacturing costs, they’ll stop making it.

Supply and demand always applies.

The number of people who cannot grasp this fact is a puzzle.

Chicken murderers!

******************************

They are that! We built a new chicken coop/pen 2 years ago that with the exception of one incident, has proved to be ‘coon/possum/skunk proof. Lost one chicken when a ‘coon pushed in some wire on a vent & left hair so we know what killed the chicken. That hole was fixed & no more dead chickens. It’s not snake proof - they get in during the day when the door is open to the yard, eat an egg, then are too fat to get back out through the chicken wire!

Thanks for the reply, doesn’t sound worth purchasing a box even just to see what they do. Adding a risk of malfunction, such as FTF, to the equation would be unacceptable.
