Exactly!

I was trying to be magnanimous to the Air Force with my rhetorical statement. Even if their CAS pilots spend "quality time" crawling through the mud with the grunts, the Air Force brass does not care about the ground war, other than "it provides targets".

If we can't get our VSTOL fighter/bombers, we need a "Spooky" version of the Osprey - or put racks in a Ch-53K which hold the 250lb GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb (video) at a 60 degree angle. These would be launched through the "Hell Hole" in the cabin floor. Then the next collapsible rack would be slid into place.

These weigh 285 lbs, are less than 6 ft long and 8" wide
