has filed a lawsuit claiming that several of them lied about him for financial gain.

So, if Cosby says that some lies, he is apparently verifying that others told the truth. Cosby is a serial rapist.

Bill Clinton and Bill Cosby could have saved money hiring the same attorneys...

good argument for defense. however, there are other considerations.

first, the current instance is not happening to anyone. it is happening to one person, and that person is cosby.

second, cosby has baggage. also, it remains to be seen whether these seven cases are pure he said she said. given the baggage, it seems likely to me that the plaintiffs have more than that in their arsenal to be presented at trial, otherwise imho (btw ianal) the plaintiffs run the risk of facing a countersuit.

third, costs of plaintiff litigation and risk of countersuits provide at least some rule of law bulwark against nuisance lawsuits. presumably, the plaintiffs have already considered the risk of being countersued and decided to proceed regardless of that risk.

in this instance, cosby and co. know the legal game and are countersuing. all other things being equal, this would mean that if the suits are spurious, cosby has a sizeable chance to prevail, at least in the court of public opinion.

in any case i do not think that cosby’s historical behavior can be equated with that of a squeaky clean male CEO who keeps his door open during one on one meetings with female subordinates. the guy in my opinion was playing with fire. people who play with fire sometimes get burned. cosby is smart and can be presumed to have known that. most any guy other than a stone cold (and financially well off and politically well connected) psychopath will not ordinarily indulge in such behavior.

and sure, legalities aside, there is a theoretical chance that i am wrong and cosby is innocent as the driven snow is pure. but imho that chance is vanishingly small when all the circumstances are considered.

so imho sympathy for cosby (and people like him) is misplaced. someone like a squeaky clean CEO, or even an ordinary joe... imho generally different conditions, so imho generally should warrant different outcome.

Refer to my post 39.
Additionally, refer to the Rolling Stone false rape story, the Duke Lacrosse story, the Columbia University Mattress Girl story. These stories ARE happening to lots of men, especially on college campuses—promiscuous women have consensual sex, then decide a year or more later it was rape. No evidence. Just she said it, she’s the pre-designated victim and cannot be doubted.
Or in some cases, a psychologically disturbed person is rejected outright. No sex, consensual or otherwise, occurred at all. The woman —or gay man—returns later and claims rape.

I did not express any opinion on Cosby’s guilt or innocence. Nor did I express any sympathy for the man who is, by his own admission, a serial adulterer at the very least, and could very well have raped those women.
I have no way of knowing. I have neither seen nor heard any EVIDENCE, only accusations. Accusations are not evidence.

I addressed the PRINCIPLES of evidence, of statute of limitations, and burden of proof being on the accuser. I addressed these issues in the context of identity politics in today’s climate of political correctness.
