snowing hard here in Westchester county and i’m leaving now for my seven mile Saturday morning run...should be fun!!
I am in the upper edge but within the predicted 24" to 36" range.
The snowfall rate and winds have increased greatly in just the last hour or so, now coming down at 2" to 3" per hour rate and visibility getting near zero. There has been some "Thundersnow" here. We have about 14" so far, but are only half way through the worst part of the storm.
Watching local Channel 8 and there are reports of some PenDot snowplows and emergency vehicles getting stuck or sliding off the roads.
One thing I notice from looking out my 2nd floor apartment window, is that the snow is not sticking to the tree limbs. Seems like a very powdery snow. Bad for drifting and the clearing of the roads but good as far as the potential for power outages.
In Richmond, Va., we have 6” as of Friday, but more to come on Saturday. What makes it dangerous is that people here don’t know how to drive in 2” of snow.
It’s coming down pretty hard and doesn’t appear to be letting up any time soon. We’re indoors and don’t have to be anywhere today, so that’s good. We’re keeping the cars cleared off as best we can. Not looking forward to the winds picking up later today... this stuff is so light it’s going to blow around like powdered sugar.
Here in Manhattan, snowing steadily. They’ve been plowing the streets like mad all night. Buses seem to be running, and newspapers were delivered. Building workers are clearing the sidewalks.
I’m going to be going out to the gym to see if they’re open as promised. I suspect the people who work out every day will be there, but few others.
Snowing like crazy here in Hanover Pa just outside of Gettysburg 2 to 3 feet expected here. Of course the talking heads from the weather channel said to please stay off the roads....well duhhhhhhhh
Woke up to a lot of snow here in northeastern Maryland. I’m thinking 20-24 inches. Dogs were able to go out and find a place to crap so that is all that matters. I’ll go out soon and get the plow moving to clear the drive for the first time.
Hi! SW PA, about 30 miles from Pittsburgh, Irwin PA, close enough to Pa Turnpike that we can walk to it (exit 67). Just tried to measure, about 13 inches...opened the back door and had a nice “plop” of drifted snow inside on the kitchen floor. Wind has picked up a bit. Spooky quiet because we are used to TPike noise. Traffic must be none existent.
Still have power. Have a Jeep (to try and get out tomorrow for church—or not!)
Yinz all stay safe and enjoy that French toast!!!
So far we have 15 inches.Windy and snowing right now.We are in Bucks County PA.
Very pretty here east of DC. Looks like 8-10 inches down with lots of drifting. No power or internet glitches yet, I’ve got food and drink. No need to leave the house unless I want to, and I don’t want to.
We’ll see what this day brings weather-wise.
Northern Virginia, 20 minutes south of DC off of I-95.
I just took a groggy peek outside and the front and back door and that’s the most snow I have ever seen here. My back door is 1.5 feet above the patio and there is a foot of snow packed against the door, although I think that’s a drift.
Probably 2+ feet, and it’s still coming down here.
Suffolk County, Long Island: Snow coming down steadily, with gusty winds. It’s not a very pretty snowfall right now. We have several inches on the ground, but with the wind-driven drifts, it’s hard to tell just how much.
Everyone here is safe and warm, with coffee and hot chocolate at the ready, and a roaring fire going in the fireplace.
Our biggest challenge so far is keeping the cat from escaping to the outside whenever we open the door to let the dog out to do his business.
Stay warm, everybody!
Regards,
We went to the March for Life yesterday. Traffic was great cause all the Government drones stayed home.
The March went on as planned. Leading edge of the storm came toward the end of the march.
We took the Metro to our car and drove home to our home 30 miles NE of Baltimore. Since I’m originally from Detroit, snow doesn’t put me into a paralyzed catatonic state.
We also cancelled a sledding campout with our Trail Life USA troop. (bummer)
About a foot on the ground and coming down hard right now. I need to get out and shovel.
Checking in from central NY area.
Not a flake to be seen from this storm. Some white on the ground from a lake effect event a few days ago that shut much of the Syracuse area down, but we’re expecting some sun today.
Watching the radar, though I would have sworn we were going to get hit, but the forecast doesn’t even suggest it. It must be pulling pretty straight east off the coast.
Oh well.
Sky looks like snow is imminent, but none is falling at present.
FOX NEWS ALERT:
Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, Mayor Stephen Reid says for people to not come out to the ocean because ‘it is an angry ocean’.
LOL
Trenton NJ 10:45 am 29F snow started at 8 pm Friday. Accumulated 16” on ground, about 9” on our sedans.
NWS says it’s heavy snow with 30 mph, gusts 45 mph. However, we’re near the Delaware River and I’d estimated 10-15 mph with 20 mph gusts with light flurries and little accumulation in the last two hours.
Very pretty. Lots of small birds because we provide thicket. Very few cars past our suburban roads.
Definitely not dangerous near us. Not seeing any kids yet. Nobody shoveling.
No sign of snow yet here in Massachusetts, west of 495.
