If none of the candidates goes into the convention with enough delegates for the nomination this is what I think will happen.

1, The first thing that will be said is that Trump and Cruz are too divisive. The wise statesmen in the party will claim that the party must unify if it is to win. Cruz will be portrayed as a right wing extremist who is unpopular and therefore incapable of leading the party. Trump will be portrayed as a racist and a crude, bombastic hater who will not gain the votes of independents. The media will say that the Republican Party needs a statesman. The media will say the Republicans need a true conservative who appeals to all people like Ronald Reagan.

2. The media will then identify people who fit the role as uniter, statesmen and true conservative. The candidates that they say fit that description will be Jeb!, Lindsey Graham, Romney, Carly Fiorino and maybe Paul Ryan. Conservatives will object. The media will then say conservatives are too emotional and trying to split the party and lose the election. Democrats will say that they want to run against Trump but fear Romney, Jeb! and Lindsey Graham.

3. Next, for the good of the party Jeb! will announce he will selflessly back out. Jeb! will be portrayed by the media as a brave, unselfish hero who is totally different from the racist haters who support Trump.

4. Finally, a compromise will be reached. I am guessing Romney and Rubio but perhaps Ryan and Rubio or Romney and Ryan. The media will applaud the new found wisdom of the Republican Party in rejecting the right wing extremist Cruz and the racist demagogue Trump.

5. The Republicans will lose the general election in a landslide. The media and the Republican elites will blame Trump and his supporters. The GOPe will vow to change the direction of the party and eliminate racism and border security and right wing extremism from the party.

Trump will make a deal with Cruz and they will go to convention united with the power to control.

All this contested convention speculation is overlooking the fact that Trump is the deal maker and will control the convention

I call click bait on this story.

Ryan isn’t going to be the nominee, and he doesn’t WANT to be the nominee.

Now this would be a legitimate reason to riot in Cleveland.

“You know, I haven’t given any thought to this stuff,” Ryan told CNBC Tuesday. “People say, ‘What about the contested convention?’ I say, well, there are a lot of people running for president. We’ll see. Who knows.”

No thought hey Paul? You are correct, because you aren't being paid to think, just do as you are told and shut up, and we will tell you what to think at the World Forum on St. Simons Island, Georgia, on Sunday. I am sure you flew home with plenty of Apple, Google and Microsoft incentives along with a Tesla. I can't wait to see Cruz or Trump fire you!

If Trump doesn't get enough delegates to win outright on the first ballot then a Trump/Cruz ticket is assured. There is no way either will allow the GOPe to steal this from them and between them they will control the party delegates.

Politics makes strange bedfellows and even though they seem to be at each other's throats today they'll find a way to bury the hatchet and unify. Ted has no future in the Senate after this race so the VP slot is perfect for him. There's no way Trump would settle for anything less than the top of the ticket and Ted has to know that he'd never win a floor fight on his own as the GOPe was always just using him to block Trump. Hence its unite or die.

Of course if Trump gets the delegate majority he needs then Ted's future is in serious doubt. Ironically we may well wind up with the ticket most here originally wanted to see last Summer before the acrimony started.

Agreed on all points individually but not the thing as a whole.

The Republicans are, most of them in leadership, cowards and without principle. This plan would not just be election suicide but would be party suicide. Party suicide means every individual is committing partial career suicide - any who shows himself to support the overthrow of whomever the people chose will be hated by the people for all time ... end of career so long as elections are the means of choosing.

While it's true that the collectivism that the Republican party has embraced wins on a mob level, Self Interest is not a political philosophy.

It merely "Is.' That's part of what "A = A' means, or more properly, "A is A". A thing is what it is. Humans don't just have self-interest, they are self interest. They are also other things, but primarily they are self interest, even if they realize that their self interest is tied to group interest.

The reason free markets and freedom work best is not that they are 'a great idea or plan' ... it's because they reflect what already IS about humans. It can not be philosophized away, except for short periods and as a collective lie.

This won't happen because it can not happen, unless it were to be done militarily.

The power of the ideas in the Declaration of Independence do not lie in 'great philosphy' or 'composition of ideas'. The power lies in the IDENTIFICATION of WHAT ALREADY IS, before any human thought process can declare or create some other symbol or map of reality. (This is tied to why many religions proscribe infusing graven images with meaning.)

That is what SELF EVIDENT and BESTOWED BY CREATOR meant / mean.

It identified not only the birthright, but more accurately, identified the condition.

Human beings can not be deprived of their freedom, in fact. Human beings can not be collectivists except for short periods of time in extreme conditions, such as when great danger is recognized. They must either fear for their lives based on an external or internal threat, or belief in such a threat.

Unless that threat is generated in reality or in perception, the Republicans ... not as a party ... but individually, will not overcome the reality of their identities.

Thus, this will not happen because it can not, unless this threat materializes.

It won't, but they will create every possible media apparition to simulate the effect.

Certain evils are constant, but also so are certain truths.

There is not enough real conditional extremity extant in the US at the moment create the real or imagined danger that would lead individuals to make up the mob required for this to take place.

That is not to say it's not what they wish for or will even attempt to cause to be, but the energy won't build strongly enough. What is described is a coup in reverse. They wish for it, but the conditions aren't there.

So, all those forces are at work, but man is what he is, so it can't happen barring many other conditions the appearance (or conjuring) of which is possible but not plausible. Based on all that, I don't believe this is an outcome worth fearing. Rather, it will be amusing to watch efforts which, while they may seem mighty as efforts, will certainly be mighty in terms of dispicability and intention, have little power against the reality of 'what is.'

'God' is no different from 'What Is.' That's the fundamental meaning of 'self evident.' Freedom isn't really a right, it's a reality of which governments arrogantly claim to be the originator rather than the denier. Expressing that denial is like denying that the sky is. Takes extreme conditions to create such mass denial, especially amongst Republican ... not pols, but voters, who already innately perceive that more than democrats, and therefore would abandon those pols in a flash. Democrats would miss the trick, Republicans, conservative, real libertarians, wouldn't and won't without a gun in their face.

This would work with the democrat electorate, not us.

Can you believe this Paul Ryan guy. NO ONE VOTES FOR HIM.

He gets SELECTED to run for VP by Romney

He gets SELECTED to be House Speaker by a relative handful of Republicans

He now wants to be SELECTED to be a presidential candidate

Other than a half-baked House district, just what has he won on his own.

I wonder if Paul Ryan will come out with an endorsement in the next three weeks considering Wisconsin has a primary on April 5th.

If these GOPe people think they can just walk in and take the nomination from Trump then these people are completely delusional. More so than I thought they ever were.

These forces you speak of will not even have a ticket to the convention never mind a seat at the table. Trump/Cruz will set the rules and oust any opposition to their ticket out on their Rino ass.

As it should be.

Rules were made to be broken...and Trump and Cruz are breaking as many as they can.

No need to stop now.

And Racid Pubies should be fired for allowing CaseBitch to remain.

And, the Republicans will suffer the worst, most embarrassing defeat ever recorded in the history of this nation.

But, that’s what they want.

Simple math.

If the remaining delegates are split in the same proportion that the remaining three candidates have already won, then:

Trump finishes with 1264 (more than the 1236 needed)
Cruz finishes with 754
Kasich finishes with 267
Rubio finishes with 172
Carson with 8
Bush with 4
Fiorina, Paul and Huckabee each with 1

If needed, Carson’s delegates would mostly go to Trump.

I project that Trump wins with a small margin, although California (and its 172 winner-take-all delegates) will decide this

They do that, and they will cease to exist as a party. Then a SECOND party MUST be formed.
