If none of the candidates goes into the convention with enough delegates for the nomination this is what I think will happen.

1, The first thing that will be said is that Trump and Cruz are too divisive. The wise statesmen in the party will claim that the party must unify if it is to win. Cruz will be portrayed as a right wing extremist who is unpopular and therefore incapable of leading the party. Trump will be portrayed as a racist and a crude, bombastic hater who will not gain the votes of independents. The media will say that the Republican Party needs a statesman. The media will say the Republicans need a true conservative who appeals to all people like Ronald Reagan.

2. The media will then identify people who fit the role as uniter, statesmen and true conservative. The candidates that they say fit that description will be Jeb!, Lindsey Graham, Romney, Carly Fiorino and maybe Paul Ryan. Conservatives will object. The media will then say conservatives are too emotional and trying to split the party and lose the election. Democrats will say that they want to run against Trump but fear Romney, Jeb! and Lindsey Graham.

3. Next, for the good of the party Jeb! will announce he will selflessly back out. Jeb! will be portrayed by the media as a brave, unselfish hero who is totally different from the racist haters who support Trump.

4. Finally, a compromise will be reached. I am guessing Romney and Rubio but perhaps Ryan and Rubio or Romney and Ryan. The media will applaud the new found wisdom of the Republican Party in rejecting the right wing extremist Cruz and the racist demagogue Trump.

5. The Republicans will lose the general election in a landslide. The media and the Republican elites will blame Trump and his supporters. The GOPe will vow to change the direction of the party and eliminate racism and border security and right wing extremism from the party.

Nope. Trump and Cruz have already said they will block any rule change that would allow this to happen. they will have direct control over the majority of the delegates.

The Republican nominee will be either Trump or Cruz

House Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) suggested Tuesday night that he could reach for the Republican presidential nomination during a contested convention in Cleveland.

Do the republicans really think they'll get away with this?
Of course they do.
They've been shitting on America and are attached at the hip to Obama.

If this happens, Paul Ryno’s bearded mug will be the symbol forever associated with the day the Republican Party was consigned to the ash heap of history.

It is clear as day - the current plot by the GOPe is Paul Ryan. They will fail. Then they will do anything to help Hillary win.

It is all about amnesty and cheap labor.

Careful, Mr. Speaker. Romney's team have put out lead balloons several times of his running and they dropped like lead.

Just because you were his VP and just because your insider establishment colleagues made you speaker, that does not mean the people are clamoring for you to pick up the gauntlet.

In other words, in plain English: stay with your day job.

The people spoke in 2010 and again in 2014 and you and your colleagues were tone deaf. Pushing through a budget that give Obama everything he wanted did not endear you to the populace.

#1 and #2 are already done.

If the GOPe goes through with this, which I think you are spot on about, the GOP is done.

Go ahead Ryan, reach. I’d love to see you get your arm gnawed off!

Hang on a freaking minute.

Breitbart writes that Ryan “suggests” he could “reach” for the nomination.

Every other account, and I have seen at least two others, says that Ryan did not deny he would accept.

Those are two very, very different things, and I do not believe that Ryan’s (carefully chosen) words arise to the level of “reach”.

Let’s be careful that we don’t overreact to editorializing, whether from Breitbart or elsewhere.

Why in hell did all of those Ohio republican voters pick Kasich last night? He has no chance to win. What could possibly motivate that many people to vote for someone without a bat's chance in hell?

I would rather Cruz or Trump win Ohio than Kasich. At least both of them have a chance. Geeez what is wrong with people.

6. The Republican party will be renamed the New Whig party and take their well deserved place in the abyss.

I just don’t get the obsession with this guy, he’s been treated like the “second coming” since he arrived on the scene not that long ago. To me, he’s most famous for doing the most obviously stupid thing you can do in politics, which is to threaten people’s Social Security checks.
