Surrendering to a literal RINO will not unify the party. I’m done voting for the lesser of two Democrats. Donald Trump has given the GOP the terminal case of cancer that Buchannanites, Ron Paul and Libertarian types have been clamoring for 30 years. The GOP is finished and we will not see a conservative president in my lifetime.
I think you’ll be very disappointed. Cruz wants power. At some point he will be mathematically unable to get to 1237 (at even now it’s quite unlikely). I suspect he won’t suspend his campaign at that point (as he is urging Kasich to do).
Morning Jeff,
Would you be open to also send one to Mr. Trump with similar suggestions toward working with Cruz?
Thanks.
I agree that this is an issue, and it's a big one for supporters of other candidates (I've been all in with Trump since July).
But consider this: Trump is not an ideologue. There's nothing about his life, his persona, or his accomplishments that say he's got a driving passion to institute socialism, or feminism, or any other ism. He DOES have a big ego, and most Presidential contenders have an ego problem.
BUT.
He's 69 years old, he has everything a man could desire, and being President while the country is in such terrible condition will be, as those of us with New York values say, a sh*t sandwich. It's NOT a vanity no-show job.
So, the "Trump is a secret Hillary fan" people have to have a theory about why he would take this on.
And I can't, for the life of me, see what that would be.
In the coming days and with the decisions he makes, Cruz is going to prove one way or the other if he is part of the professional politician “establishment” class or not. It’s his choice ..... get co-opted/paid off by and/or collude with the GOPe to keep their crony, corrupt political pocket-lining structure in place that is enabling/assisting Obama/Dems/Progs/Libs to destroy America OR do what is in America’s best interests. I have my opinion on the matter thus far, but I’m willing to wait a short while longer and see which way he goes.
There should be one more condition or stipulation should Cruz release his delegates to Trump for the VP spot.
Cruz gets to select ALL the upcoming Supreme Court vacancies during a Trump presidency.
Great letter Jeff. I pray the Senator from the great state of Texas seriously considers it.
I would let this play out. Seward had triple the number of delegates than Lincoln on the first ballot. 3-4 months before the convention is an eternity considering the news cycle, the number of primaries remaining and the fickleness of the American public.
I do not expect Trump to fetter himself with a VP that he has not chosen for the job he wants them to do. I do not see the upside of taking Cruz on other than shortening the primary battle for Trump.
“Get your candidates pledged to him if he will make you the VP candidate on both on this elections presidential ticket, and on a second presidential ticket should he run for it.”
I think you meant to say “Get your delegates pledged to him”. Other than then that it is a great idea and letter.
Rafael cares about himself. He does not care what you think. He will sell out (already has) to the GOPe and he’ll lose to Hillary after throwing away ALL our votes for Trump with absolutely no hesitation of sidelining the winner and those who voted for him.
Just like he used his real name to head up the “latino review’ at Harvard, he is using YOU.
Good idea. Ted needs to listen to some reason instead of trying to do his part to divide the conservative base. We need to unite again.
I fear however there's too much bad blood between Trump and Cruz at this point. Both have huge ego's and both want to win badly.
Jeff,
This is by far the BEST letter or comment written on Free Republic ever! EVER!
A month ago I would not have agreed. But at this point, we must save ourselves from the GOP-e and this may well be God’s Plan through it all.
Thank you.
This letter needs to be forwarded to RUSH to be read online. You said it so concisely I think he would read it at this point.
God Bless you and God Bless our beloved Land.

Well written, and well said, Jeff...
My sentiments and thoughts exactly...
As usual well thought out and expressed. Thanks Jeff. My belief is DJT would not have him as VP. Too much water under bridge. I also believe both Cruz n Kasich have been offered deals - probably the same one- to stay in n compromise Trump. Too bad. Both WERE HONEST Initially
There have been some signs that both Trump and Cruz have already agreed to not let GOPe pull any shenanigans at the convention- FWIW.
Great letter Jeff.
Moreover, without ever holding a public office his negatives are higher than Hillary Clinton's!!!! I do not understand why anyone on a site called "Free Republic" would support him at this point. You are being duped.
