Donald Trump is a progressive. He has been a progressive his entire life.

Trump is in trouble with the MSM and the GOPe because of positions on immigration and homeland security that conservatives support. He is not a Progressive.

Trump has spent his entire professional life as a privateu sector risk taker. And he is by nature a good natured big talker not too dissimilar from Rush Limbaugh. He does not speak with the polished tongue of a politician and he suffers accordingly. Not a capital offense.

I see the man as coming into his own as a political leader with a private sector problem solving bias and an appreciation for American strength and tradition. I believe he already has a close set of conservative policy advisers and will be relying on them more and more as we get to the next phase of the campaign.

The right should be adopting this candidate as one of its own and driving his future policy positions in the direction we prefer. Rejection and ridicule leads to defeat in November.

Yep, he's expressed his belief in free markets, free trade, no tariffs, but also strict border enforcement. He apparently hasn't caught on to the reality that those who're really into free markets and free trade consider the free movement of labor to be just as much a part of it as the free movement of goods and services across national borders.

Until he learns that, he's just a useful idiot for those pushing the full meaning of free markets and free trade, which definitely includes the free movement of labor.

A populist is a politician that latches onto whatever issue is the most prevalent in the public mind, then crafts his position to take the greatest advantage of it. He has no real principles of his own, and as such is comfortable changing positions on a dime if the public sentiment changes. He is equally as comfortable relying on conservative positions as he is liberal positions, because the positions are not based on core beliefs, but are a means to an end - gaining power. That is a good description of Trump.

Reagan was popular - people like who he was and had respect for his as a person - but his positions were based on conservative principles. He didn't change his positions just go along with the public mood, but sought to bring the public mood around to the principles he espoused.

That's funny, in all the years I've heard him - going back to DrugRush and the BoyScout guest appearances, I can't recall him mentioning Locke once...

In fact, having covered a legal/.gov beat for 19 years, compared to the legal minds I would call above average, Levin always just struck me as a carnival barker accompanied by a lot of puffery.

We need someone that can reach across the aisles, sorting out the whack-jobs from those worth saving.

We also need someone that isn't saturated in the climate of law and political science, that is what delegating responsibility is for, in this place in history.

Without gutting the Deep State and granting triage to the Middle Class and Small Business Entrepreneurs, the USofA will not stay together in one piece for another 10-20 years.

What We the Sheeple REALLY don't need right now is a bunch of outdated, self-important talking heads...

Not a bad analogy, although Reagan's transformation was established well before his candidacy.

I know that Trump is not a proven commodity. But his campaign to date has been based on positions conservatives have long advocated. And his ability to deal with the MSM has been exemplary, if not superior to Reagan's. Trump can lead and is not afraid. And as you say, Trump has the non-politician pedigree many have been demanding.

Trump will be on the ballot as the Republican nominee. Hillary will be the Democratic opponent. Both races are essentially over. The right needs to get its act together and win this thing.
