Awaiting the arrival of the “They’re Sitting Ducks!” crowd.

They are if the Chi-Coms are ready to take it that far.

Got a grandson on the USS Enterprise in the South China Sea??? The previous USS Enterprise is currently decommissioned, defueled, partially disassembled, and sitting in a drydock in Newport News, VA. Possibly your grandson was “beamed up” to the other ENTERPRISE.

The Enterprise? It was retired two years ago. Sitting at Newport News Shipbuilding as crews deactivate its nuclear reactors. New Enterprise will be part of the Ford class—won’t join the fleet for years.

Got a grandson there on the USS Enterprise. Wish he had a better CiC.

My son was stationed aboard the Kitty Hawk a few years ago when the Chinese sub followed it.

>Vietnam is claiming the area and would rule it the same as China

1. Vietnam has never built islands in the area and put air bases in them

2. Vietnamese claim over the area runs, pretty much undisputed, from the 17th century to quite recently

3. When France was the occupying power it also considered the area as part of its Indochina territory

4. At the end of World War 2, the Allied Powers, including China, did not include the region as "former Japanese occupied, to be returned to China "

You and the Chicom warlords don't have a de jure leg to stand on

Don’t know. I’ll give the guy the benefit of the doubt that he may be older and not as lucid in his posts as he used to be. May have had a grandson stationed on it in the past.

Given the recent primary chisim here and based on his 12 years on FR, let’s not make a big deal of it unless he cares to.

I might not be the only one tipping a few back today.

Cheers and God bless!

What is that photo about? Serious question.

I served in Catapults on a carrier. That looks like a made-up photo. It’s not a bow, stern or port view, as far as I can tell.

Thanks for your replies in 33-34. Interesting reads.

I’m still unable to figure out the orientation of the ship in the photo. .....With the island being on the left of the shot, it should be from the bow. But there are aircraft parked on the right and there is no sharp prow or “horns” visible. .....If the island is viewed as being shot from the stern, there is no visible fantail or a wake from the props.

The aircraft on the left of the photo seems to be going away from the shot, while the second aircraft appears to be approaching the shot prior to landing; and people are standing on the flight deck.

Oh well... Guess I’ll just hit the pillow confused.

Thanks again!

It’s a bow shot, with the camera angled off to the port side of the ship. You can see the plume of water where the bow is slicing through.

Both aircraft were just launched, looks like one from the bow turning to starboard, one from the angled deck turning to port.

They are launching from both sides of the deck, one from port, one from starboard, and the aircraft are pre-staged to facilitate that, which is why you see aircraft and personnel on both sides of the deck.

Vietnam and the Philippines both have claimed that the waters in disbute are theirs. That's why their pissed at China. But their not to pleased with the U.S. claiming its international waters. Then it wouldn't be theirs.
