Story? Again? - First I’ve heard of it. - LIES when the
TRUTH would be better.
When did he originally disclose it he failed to put that in his answer.
~$400 million of cocaine molded into shipping pallets.
It wasn’t a “ransom”, it was a “man-caused disaster relief fund”! /s;)
Barky said it was open knowledge back in January, that the embargo cut financial telations so a check or wire transfer of funds was not possible, that an international tribunal said we had to pay the $400m withheld from them, and that our lawyers deemed it best to pay them or risk penalty cost.
I dunno, don’t know specific details on this, just hoping we and Trump aren’t making something of nothing, in an eagerness to hammer a Democrat.
How many divisions does the tribunal have?
Right before the Shah was deposed, with Jimmy Carter's help, the Iranians paid us $400M for fighter jets. The Shah fell. Iran became destabilized and the American hostages were taken.
So we suspended delivery of the jets as part of a larger freezing of Iranian assets.
As part of Obama's Iranian deal we agreed to give them their money back and they agreed to waive interest claims.
But the method and manner of payment, and the concurrent release of prisoners, tells us that this was certainly a Payment for Hostages sub deal that was part of a larger package.
There is so much to criticize in the Iran deal, this is just one more of those things.
An America-loving competent president would have made it clear to the Iranians that the $400m was just partial compensation to the American public for the taking of the hostages, the destruction of an embassy and the cost of having our Nation deal with the crisis for 440 days. And that all private claims by the hostages and their families against the Iranians were outside the settlement.
But, of course, we caved. Maybe because our guy plays for the other team. Or maybe we got a hell of a deal from the Iranians!
Still don’t see why it appeared so clandestine.
Delivering $$$ day as hostage release and stories of them waiting on tarmac for the $$$ plane’s arrival sure make it seem clandestine.
