Trump pays his bills but for whatever reason (I am not a construction mogul) he takes his time.

...

Perhaps he doesn’t pay until the job is done right.

We really have no way to know all the details. I’m involved in these types of projects all the time, and a painter would normally be a subcontractor...for all we know Trump’s company paid the general, but for some reason the general hasn’t been timely in paying subs.

I know it won’t be long before someone trots out the old concern troll meme, but it seems like campaign lost by a thousand cuts.

...

If you read the entire thread you’ll see some posts by people in the business who explain what’s going on. It’s not a big deal. I hope this is the last I see of your concern troll meme.

Well, if the shoe fits, wear it.

Best way to not be called a concern troll is to not be one!

I’m an attorney and have handled lots of lien issues. Just want to echo what many have said. This is routine on any large project. There are always issues with contractors, sometimes liens get filed for leverage and 99.9% are settled.

It’s weird, for some reason contractors like to be paid in a timely manner.
See post #7 for the many reasons why they usually aren't genius.

Probably the 20 that are “pissed” are ones who didn’t invoice per their contract and think they can force some extra money out of the job.

Total hit job ... Notice that they don’t quote any of the owners of the business..and none got back to them. The first company already boasts two Trump golf courses on their website...Trump International - West Palm Beach, FL
Trump National Resort - Doral, FL.

And trying to say these liens open the way for a forced sale of Doral unless it’s paid off and that Trump managed to stave off an attempt to sell Doral for a $34,000 bill, is a 100 mile stretch of the truth.

These are just like mechanic’s liens..almost automatic, and there could be a hundred for Trump Inc. not to pay in full.

I’ll bet the contractor and the paint supplier didn’t want anything to do with this hit piece. The last thing they want is their company name being looked at like a under-performing contractor.

It appears that one of the liens is from the paint supplier who is likely owed the money by the painting contractor. It’s SOP for suppliers to file preliminary liens for materials on a job but it would be the subcontractor’s (painting contractor in this case) responsibility to pay them after being paid by the owner/client. I routinely run $5M+ projects and it is not unusual for suppliers to subcontractors to file liens because they haven’t been paid. There is usually some type of dispute with the subcontractor and the General Contractor related to defects or workmanship that hold up payments. Sometimes it can be something as small as closeout or warranty documents not being received.

What’s even more interesting is that the larger amount listed from the General Contractor is 1/100th of the total of $255 million project.

This writer is part of the Clinton team and his job was to forward the theme that Trump screw’s the little guy.

It would be a lot of fun to start calling the writer with some pointed questions.

I will never forget walking into one of our condo projects during the painting stage. In the entrance lobby, the walls had little 1” spots of masking tape all over. It looked like a flock of moths were stuck on the walls.

I asked a nearby guy - “what goes there, pointing to the tape bit. He didn’t know who I was, and answered with disgust.

“That damn architect comes in here in the early morning, then again at night and looks at the paint job from all directions, then marks the spots we missed. What an a$$hole - we are gonna be over our bid on this!”

The contractors forget that the clients who are paying for the building hire the architects and engineers for a reason -To get their money’s worth, and not to be cheated by sub-standard work, not to mention staying in compliance with all the building codes.

“warranty documents not being received”

Same exact thing happened at our condo complex...painter took forever to get us the designated warranty docs from the paint manufacturer.

It may be a case of a contractor or a sub not paying someone down stream from them.

Mechanic’s lien or UCC Lien.

They are common in capital projects over $25,000 and for one this size, it would take several months for it to be paid after the work is done.

Nothing to see here.

The story is purposely slanted to make it look like a typical transaction is being used to squeeze the little guy.

Believe me, the property can’t operate with these lien’s sitting over them.

They will be paid in proper and due course of time.

You always file a lien unless the contract stipulates otherwise.

That way, when the work is complete you have recourse to collect, in the event they fail to pay....

......what bullshit!

Lien’s are common as dirt in the construction business. I’ve dealt with subs and vendors on scores of liens. They file a lien to get leverage. Usually, they are demanding more than they are owed or they have not finished their work or they have performed shoddy work. I’ve never got anywhere close to a lien being foreclosed upon. The libs really truly are bonkers on this one! In due time, Trump will settle these liens for a negotiated amount. That’s the way the system works, like it or not!

I second this. Former attorney for major utility cooperative. Liens on large projects are routine.

Anyone who has built a new house with a developer will also understand there are always disputes over work done.
