The Phantom Menace killed it for me. Well, actually it just finished off what those bastard Ewoks started.

Donnie Yen is fantastic in SPL (and a lot of other movies).

Yeah I was never impressed with the very first one. I thought it was rather juvenile. I enjoyed Star Trek a lot more, though they too had some juvenile story lines, the majority were not.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised that the movie and TV industries are VERY concerned about movies and TV shows in production and/or late pre-production that have been "green lighted" over the 15 months. They all saw the savaging of the "re-imagined" Ghostbusters and don't want to end up producing something that is woefully out of touch with public sentiment.

That's why I said that the Warner Brothers/DC Comics movie Wonder Woman may have to re-shoot a number of scenes because the script assumed that Hillary Clinton would be President at the time of the movie's release in summer 2017.

I just couldn’t get over all the stupid goofy costumed characters in Star Wars. The Wooky character killed it for me right from the start. That was beyond dumb.

I like science fiction that has some semblance of actual science, not crazy getups.

Bill Whittle did a piece on the Star Wars analogy and I agree with him. Perhaps the author intended otherwise, but the Empire represented big oppressive overpowering government or even the Soviet Union in the first movie, with its massive army about to invade Western Europe and nuclear first strike capability,

The rebels were clearly American stereotypes fighting against impossible odds. Even “the force” , IMHO, could be seen as spirituality in general and those who don’t “believe” are atheistic.

Even the timing is interesting; A New Hope came out at the height of the Cold War when we were at our weakest, and The Force Awakens came out,,, right before one of the most pivotal elections in American history.

And in the force awakens, the last scene is filmed on an island off the coast of Scotland, named for St Michael. I find that interesting. God works and speaks to us in mysterious ways.

Another point is that a return to spirituality in general, represented by the force, whether good or bad aspects of it, can defeat massive empires by underdogs.

I have not seen the Rogue movie yet.

If I decide to see it, I’ll wait for it to come out on DVD and stream it for free. Really give those overpaid Hollywood libs a good screwing.

The Force Awakens was just a copy nearly scene for scene of A New Hope. Literally.

Hmmm...there were definitely similarities, I don’t concur with your premise. ANH was at least consistent. TFA was a mish mash of stuff. And, of course, they had to throw in a Death Star type weapon. Also seems like TFA and RO continue the trend that you can’t have a White Male hero anymore. Finally, last but not least: they freak’in killed Han Solo!!

What made Star Wars great was the black & white conflict with the Empire. Which is why the prequels largely failed: too many shades of gray.

Reverse political correctness?

I'm going to see Rogue One because all 7 Star Warses were fun.

I can see through a political "message" and disregard it.

The evil Empire is (a) white supremacist

This has been a fan theory for decades, but doesn't really hold up in the movies themselves. That being said , the "Nazi Party" scene in Force Awakens, complete with the red banners was ridiculous.

Yup. It was a steaming pile, a complete waste.

“So, umm, I’m guessing you didn’t see the last movie where a black stormtrooper from the First Order was one of the central characters.”

Yes, I did see “The Force Awakens”, although I wouldn’t mind getting those two hours back. Would you agree with me that the position of “Storm Trooper” isn’t the most posh and desirable job title in the First Order? If these guys really were White Supremacists I would expect that all the Storm Troopers would be black dudes.

The Empire was mostly made up of British guys, I always saw it as a tribute to the British Empire of the early 20th century. Nevertheless the political posturing of these Star Wars people is pathetic, they should just STFU.

I used to love the cantina scene. Now the whole frachise is a cantina scene.

It's strident liberal puritanism.
