Star Wars “jumped the shark” when they cast Natalie Portman in a couple of them.
It almost seems like the latest films in the Star Wars franchise are all about killing the Death Star (or its proxy) over and over again. Most agree that “The Empire Strikes Back” was the best Star Wars film, and that had no Death Star.
the only thing I got out of it was Hollywood’s persistent need for Black Guy White Girl romance... after 14 hours of being together in the movie they shed tears when they had to part ways! how utterly stupid!
Sorry but the prequels made it quite clear that the force was genetic anomaly called “midichlorians”.
The religious aspect was probably tacked on by the Jedi in order to explain to the rubes why their life sucked; i.e. they were not sufficiently faithful.
The Jedi are jerks.
Yes! Natalie was terrible. The prequels actually accidentally made the empire look pretty good.
Fact is it was simply cheaper for Lucas to shoot in London than in Hollywood, and cheaper to use local actors for the smaller roles. No more thought went into it than that.
What bothers me is that in the trailer for "Rogue One", the Rogue team are seen mentioning the force, but in "New Hope" which takes place within weeks or months of "Rogue" , no one but Obi Wan seems to remember the Force or know anything about it at all (which is itself ridiculous, since it has only ben 18 yrs since the Judi were killed). But it's a big universe, so we'll see. I'll definitely see the movie.
“Grand admiral Thrawn if I remember the books right was a non human who became head of the imperial forces.”
Yes, he was a genius with plans inside of plans, always a step ahead of the enemy.
“Not a fan but, Moochelle is a Wookie.”
Ha! This is true!
LOL! That was pretty good...my sentiments exactly!
“Bill Whittle did a piece on the Star Wars analogy and I agree with him. Perhaps the author intended otherwise, but the Empire represented big oppressive overpowering government or even the Soviet Union in the first movie, with its massive army about to invade Western Europe and nuclear first strike capability,”
Actually, the Empire represented us Americans. George Lucas, Walter Murch, and their ilk more than made that clear.
“The rebels were clearly American stereotypes fighting against impossible odds. Even the force , IMHO, could be seen as spirituality in general and those who dont believe are atheistic.”
The Rebels were actually supposed to be Vietcong. Again, just ask Lucas, he made that repeatedly clear. As far as The Force, considering how Yoda acted more like a Buddhist, I’d assume it’s not Western religion.
“Even the timing is interesting; A New Hope came out at the height of the Cold War when we were at our weakest, and The Force Awakens came out,,, right before one of the most pivotal elections in American history.”
He actually started making the film back in 1973, and intended for it to be a subtle hit piece against our involvement in Vietnam, and probably also pro-communist propaganda. The fact that it came out right before Reagan got elected was a coincidence at most (especially when Lucas if anything hates Reagan).
“And in the force awakens, the last scene is filmed on an island off the coast of Scotland, named for St Michael. I find that interesting. God works and speaks to us in mysterious ways.”
I wouldn’t be so sure about that. There have been plenty of filming locations, none of which really were all that symbolic.
And quite frankly, it’s because of Lucas’s admission of who the Empire and Rebels are based on that I no longer root for the Rebels, and even more, I root for the Empire now. I do NOT root for Communists.
It had absolutely positively EVERYTHING ANH had.
Here’s the checklist.
1.) Death Star
2.) Quest to destroy it while young kid becomes Jedi.
3.) Adventure through space with Han Solo.
4.) Father/Son dynamic (reversed)
5.) Rebels fight at the end to blow up new super death star.
It’s the same exact movie with a different backdrop. That’s it.
Yea, I have heard that all before, but I would argue perceptions didn’t happen to work out the way Lucas planned. That was my point. As with most liberals the intentions didn’t match the end result, and for this case it worked in our favor. And that is suspiciously divine. Hence God works in strange ways.
I was a teen watching the first Star Wars movie and it was my perception at the time that the ominous evil empire was the Soviet Union and perhaps communism.
Screw Lucas’ intent. As Whittle said in one of his videos, Luke was the restless all American teenager with big dreams, Princess Leiha a Independent thinking female common to the US and Hans Solo is the guy with the hot rod combined with a lot of cowboy; All independent thinking freedom loving American stereotypes.
The Empire was the epitome of communism and slavery.
I download all my movies and tv shows online.
No news except what I get from FR or Drudge.
I'm much happier than when I had 1000 channels. Just wish I could get a T2 line.

Maybe, but the only thing I see is that we were manipulated into rooting for the Vietcong, NOT for the American Minutemen as we had hoped.
As far as divine intervention, the only divine intervention I can envision is something akin to the ending of Raider’s of the Lost Ark, where George Lucas and all the Star Wars actors are incinerated by a beam of light from the heavens in the most agonizing manner, and God gloats about his powers.
“I was a teen watching the first Star Wars movie and it was my perception at the time that the ominous evil empire was the Soviet Union and perhaps communism.”
I thought something similar at the time, that the Rebels were either the American Minutemen and the Empire the British, or the French Resistance against Nazi Germany. Unfortunately, George Lucas made clear such was NOT what I thought at all.

Yeah, and the Matrix could easily be argued as being representative of America via diverse populations, yet we all know it was Marxist, especially after the Wachowskis opened their big fat mouth. And I thought Metal Gear was conservative until series creator Hideo Kojima had the characters blatantly singing praises for Che Guevara. Quite honestly, my own views, your own views, heck, anyone’s own views that aren’t Lucas or as of now Abrams and Disney, they don’t matter compared to the guy who made the work. Only way our views can EVER amount to anything in Star Wars at all is if we did to Lucas what Wesker did to Spencer here: https://youtu.be/Oi_6dix_718?t=63 Is my statement very cynical and bleak? Yes, but unfortunately, that’s exactly how it goes, especially when various creators outright ignore their fans and/or the story they make.
“The Empire was the epitome of communism and slavery.”
Considering what Lucas said about the Rebel Alliance’s origins, I’d argue it was the other way around regarding the communism bit (unfortunately, communism was also about anarchy. Just ask several Communist agitators who advocated government overthrow and destroying any law and order. Heck, just ask the likes of Sartre and Foucault, who advocated for absolute liberty of the individual and destroying government).
Lucas ripped from “the hero’s journey” and from “princess of mars” by edgar rice burroughs.
It was basically axis power vs the alies with a hero.
since then it is all following the “save the cat” screen writing.
Disney is moving away from that lucasism. They already dumped his expanded universe as non-cannon.
Every Star Wars from now on will focus on some super weapon and people destroying it.
It’s gonna get old fast. Rogue One will probably have people start whining about it, but Disney will do it again, and maybe then they’ll figure it out.
