Is there anyone in the country who does not realize that the Democrats would have behaved in exactly the same way if the situation were reversed (a vacancy occurring a few months before a Presidential election with a Republican President in office)?

The Senate has no duty to approve a Presidential nomination. The Senate even rejected George Washington's nominee for Chief Justice--John Rutledge, a Signer of the Constitution of the United States (who had previously served as an associate justice).

They admit in the article that they did the same thing to Bush’s nominees in 2008, but THIS is outrageous.

Elections have consequences. We Won. Now it is time to reward our friends and punish our enemies. (and listen to the lamentations of their women).

The Senate should have considered garland. And then voted to deny him the appointment. But since senators, especially the republican ones, are cowards, the path they took achieved the same result and didn’t involve the risk that garland might be confirmed. Senators should consider each supreme court nominees on their merits and their faithfulness to the Constitution. If they did then we wouldn’t have breyer, ginsburg, sotomayor or kagan on the ussc.

For my kids I interpreted it as "Tough Situation". You got the "sh" and I gave them the "it". Put them together and you've got the deepness where Obama left his party. Kinda makes me feel like River Dancing!

The Senate has a VERY BUSY SCHEDULE, so it’s difficult getting around to ever Tom, Dick, and Harry that wants to be a judge.

But, given all of this pressure on this now, I’m sure they’ll do MUCH BETTER in this new term.

I think I hear FReeper heads exploding. By not passing the judges, it seem, nay it is a bonefide fact, the Republicans did something very good and are not really the enemy many deplorably claim

So, President Trump has one (1) immediate SC appointment to make AND 83 district court judge appointments to immediately make.

President Trump getting his people into the district courts (where most of the damage is done) will have huge consequences over the next year...

Was the LAtte Times upset when Ted Kennedy conspired with far left groups to hold up Bush’s judicial nominees specifically to control certain pending federal cases?

This wasn’t even during a “transitional” period.

Dead Red Ted Kennedy was behind Borking, as well (see previous post).

Always seemed ‘odd’ that McCarthyism was named for “the” (a) perpetrator of “the” technique but Borking was named for the victim of the attacks and not the ringmaster of those attacks.

Not a “trick” and not “dysfunction”, we elected them to not confirm marxist judges.

The Kentucky Turtle handled it just right...he kept Garland off the Court and minimized any political damage to his colleagues by not having public hearings. That the seat was still unfilled as of the election gave conservatives an incentive to go to the polls to make sure that Trump rather than Hillary got to fill the vacancy.
