That’s the last place that abomination ought to be; they’ll be too close to their favorite “oppressed group” the “Palestinians” as to be better situated to directly aid them. Not that said abomination ought to continue to exist.

Remember that the 9/11 terrorists didn’t attack the UN building.

How relevant is the current group “running” the State Department? I hope they are part of the gangs of people in the outgoing crowd.

As far as the dire warnings are concerned, “play it again, Sam.”

He’s right.

The question then is are we willing to do what it takes to protect it and to banish those who would attack it, or are we going to do it half baked with potentially embarrassing and disastrous results?

In other words this will involve a lot more than simply moving people to a new building. It will take a long range multi-administration very serious commitment.

perhaps, but unlike Benghazi under the current administration’s watch- the coming president will actually care about American lives and WILL grant requests for increased security and protection!

Trump will probably invoke the Presidential wavier to postpone moving our Embassy to Jerusalem as Clinton, Bush, and Obama have done. The status of Jerusalem is wrapped up in the theology of any final peace agreement.

No other country has its embassy in Jerusalem. There are many reasons why this is the case. I wouldn't use the safety of our diplomats as the primary reason, but it is a consideration.

The real reason has to do with the complications it would cause to existing agreements we and our allies have in terms of resolving the conflict. The Declaration of Principles and the Interim Agreement, signed by Israel and the PLO on 13 September 1993 and 28 September 1995 respectively, left the issue of the status of Jerusalem to be decided in the ‘permanent status’ negotiations between the two parties.

Jerusalem is much more secure than Tel Aviv.

Says who?

That's exactly right. One reason nobody has their embassy in Jerusalem is that more than 130 countries have granted formal recognition to Palestine as some form of quasi-autonomous state, and the Palestinian leadership claims East Jerusalem as its capital.

This is a very complicated issue, and Donald Trump would do well to steer clear of it. There is no upside to getting involved in these situations over there, as every U.S. president since Reagan learned the hard way.

The “Peace Process” has been going on since the 1960s. It’s all process and no peace.

It's all proce$$.

It really should be called "trans"peace, like transgender, because anyone with a lick of sense knows that "trans" means "fake".

Interesting. Just over 1,300 terror victims since 2000. Around 80 a year, a bit less. But some of them are in Tel Aviv. Need to shutter our Embassy there. How about the consulate in Jerusalem? If Jerusalem is too dangerous for diplomats, shutter it. Leave Israel entirely. State might like that. But consistency might require similar standards worldwide and, sadly, 80 is the toll some days in Iraq and Afghanistan. Remove our Embassy. Europe, about 8000 since 1970. Yikes, 180 a year, bye bye Europe. Then there's the US. 80 dead, six weeks in Chicago. If the President wants to speak there next week, fine, but leave the Secret Service home, too dangerous. Everyone knows the "risk" isn't the reason, State has opposed the existence of Israel since 1948. Not to bring up the law, but the Presidential waiver is to be based on risks to our national security which is not the same thing as risk to State Department employees and Marines, who take greater risks every day.

Then again, what did State do about Taylor Force, West Point grad, killed while studying in Israel. Other than providing aid to enable the PA to pay a stipend to the terrorist's family.

This “opinion” will be rectified once Trump takes over. Jerusalem IS a Jewish city and THE capital of Israel. The Muslims have Mecca and Medina. They should be kicked out of Jerusalem and Constantinople ( aka Istanbul) and every other city they have co-opted.
