Amen Texas Eagle...I lived in Live Oak for a number of years in the mid 1980’s and the size of the dam and watching for boils along the Feather river during heavy storms was always a bit stressful.

They are going to need to increase the capacity of the channelized river downstream to at least 2x what it is now. And build a spillway that can actually handle 300k cfs.

If the auxiliary spillway fails now, whatever water flows through it now will not have the force it would've if it had failed when it was at or near the top. We are 8 hours away from any water getting to us and it will rise much slower now than it otherwise would've.

The people of Oroville, Gridley and Biggs will have far less time to react if it goes. Keep them in your prayers.

That section you were worried about near the parking lot IS the emergency spillway. Water was over topping the dam there as it is supposed to. They were worried about erosion at the base of that spillway as it had never been used since the dam was built. The hole in the main spillway was another problem altogether.

I looked at them too. I’d have evacuated before the order.

I would move loved ones out for the next couple of weeks if I was in the area and inventory stuff I really didn’t want to be under water.

Sure maybe there is a 1% chance of failure, but that’s enough.

Government incompetence is often (usually) unquantifiable. Read up on the levee districts in new Orleans.

You have no idea of the condition of the dam/reservoir. Nobody does, because they haven’t checked thoroughly. It’s going to be full again next week. How much do you trust in government?

Exactly! There’s still more rain in the forecast and there is already some major damage. I wouldn’t relax just yet. I’d probably use this time to start gathering up personal items and moving to to storage on higher ground.
