“My mother was born in Dublin and came here legally.”

My wife’s father was Irish and a no more honest and decent man could you find. He was a good conservative and now probably 20 years after he left us, the stuff he told my wife and me about politics has turned out to be more true than either of us would have ever thought. I love the Irish! My wife took out youngest to Ireland for a visit when she was a teen. She still speaks fondly of that visit and the hospitality of the Irish people.

This makes it sound like New York City is full of wild illegal immigrants from Ireland. I find this hard to believe. All those Irish sneaking up to the border via Mexico and slipping into the night on a dangerous month-long ocean voyage escaping the persecution in Ireland. I’m pretty sure this isn’t happening.

“Welcoming immigrants is really the city’s oldest tradition. It actually makes sound financial sense.”

That’s the great lie that has been posited about US immigration, that it made sound financial sense for everybody.

It didn’t, it benefited the immigrants who got a bit of freedom and the chance of making something of yourself rather than starving on a windswept Irish hillside or been charged down by sword-wielding cossacks invading your village. It also benefited the owners of capital who got a continually renewable supply of biddable workers who could be fitted into their mass-production systems and got rid of if they didn’t do what they were told.

But guess who it didn’t benefit? The people who always get painted out of the story of the great immigration from the 1850s onwards, or if they are included are vilified as bigots and know-nothings? The ordinary native-born American worker. He paid the price economically for the great melting pot.

At a time when the US economy boomed tenfold the wages of the native-born worker rose by only four times. The very wealthy got fantastically rich, the immigrants got to live in squalor doing nasty jobs and the native-born worker lost his livelihood and his economic leverage.

Sound familiar?

I recall youths from Spain vacationing in Dublin back in the late 70s/early 80s. They were quite loud and obnoxious, and when riding the buses there they would ring the bell for the next stop incessantly. They did not make friends easily, FWICS.

Maybe a permanent presence of “no habla Irlandés” Mexicans might wake this generation of Irish up as to reality. But who knows. They still have a minuscule presence of Muslim “refugees” thus far and are still ignorant as to what the continent, or even their neighbors in Britain, have to put up with.

No one ever claimed they were.

Illegal immigrants are a huge problem and you have to be delusional or stupid not to see that.

Immigrants that refuse to assimilate are a huge problem. Islamic immigrants are notorious for creating third world enclaves and promoting such quaint customs a sharia law and honor killings.

My mother was an immigrant. She came to this country as a registered nurse when there was an extreme need for people with her talents. She had a green card and followed all the rules.

When she applied for citizenship she was denied because her country of origin had no quota left at the time she applied. No one appealed on her behalf and no congress critter called a news conference decrying the policy. She had to get in line behind millions of other immigrants that had preferred refugee status.

Oh, BTW She was Canadian and came to work in Rochester NY in a VA hospital during WWII caring for the wounded. After the war, refugees from Europe and war brides from England got all the visas. She wasn't naturalized until 1948 after patiently waiting in line and following all the rules.

Some people call me intolerant and racist because I expect others to follow the same rules. Lucky for them she is gone now because their ears would be burned off by her lecture of how to do it right and how much of a blessing it is to become an American.

More conflation of “illegal alien” with “immigrant” on the left’s part.

My mother is still alive, came from Ireland legally and became a citizen the right way. And she would happily burn the ears off the lefty liars should they speak up for illegal aliens and dare to compare them to her.

I wish our mothers could have met and given their take on this issue.

We take what we have for granted, they had to earn every bit of it.

[[Immigrants are not US’s problem and policy makers already know this [barf]]]

No? Not our problem? I’d say there is a HUGE problem with illegals- they cost our country between $400 BILLION DOLLARS and $600 BILLION DOLLARS every single year! People complain about a wall that might cost $20 Million Dollars? Really? We’d be saving trillions of dollars by spending just $20 million for the wall, and a few million per year to maintain the wall! And as for illegals not being a problem- think again!

Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants

http://www.usillegalaliens.com/impacts_of_illegal_immigration_crime_summary.html

In recent Testimony of District Attorney John M. Morganelli before the House Subcommittee on immigration, Border, Security and Claims he stated:

“Unfortunately, the majority of illegal aliens who are here are engaged in criminal activity. Identity theft, use of fraudulent social security numbers and green cards, tax evasion, driving without licenses represent some of the crimes that are engaged in by the majority of illegal aliens on a daily basis merely to maintain and hide their illegal status.
In addition, violent crime and drug distribution and possession is also prevalent among illegal aliens. Over 25% of today’s federal prison population are illegal aliens. In some areas of the country, 12% of felonies, 25% of burglaries and 34% of thefts are committed by illegal aliens.”

•In Los Angeles, 95% of some 1,500 outstanding warrants for homicides are for illegal aliens. About 67% of the 17,000 outstanding fugitive felony warrants are for illegal aliens.

•There are currently over 400,000 unaccounted for illegal alien criminals with outstanding deportation orders. At least one fourth of these are hard core criminals.

•80,000 to 100,000 illegal aliens who have been convicted of serious crimes are walking the streets. Based on studies they will commit an average of 13 serious crimes per perpetrator.

•Illegal aliens are involved in criminal activities at a rate that is 2-5 times their representative proportion of the population.

•In 1980, our Federal and state facilities held fewer than 9,000 criminal aliens but at the end of 2003, approximately 267,000 illegal aliens were incarcerated in U.S. correctional facilities at a cost of about $6.8 billion per year.

•At least 4.5 million pounds of cocaine with a street value of at least $72 billion is smuggled across the southern border every year. ..

•56% of illegal aliens charged with a reentry offense had previously been convicted on at least 5 prior occasions.

•Illegal aliens charged with unlawful reentry had the most extensive criminal histories. 90% had been previously arrested. Of those with a prior arrest, 50% had been arrested for violent or drug-related felonies.

•Illegal aliens commit between 700,000 to 1,289,000 or more crimes per year.

•Illegal aliens commit at least 2,158 murders each year – a number that represents three times greater participation than their proportion of the population.

•Illegal alien sexual predators commit an estimated 130,909 sexual crimes each year.

•There may be as many as 240,000 illegal alien sex offenders circulating throughout America. Based on studies, they will commit an average of 8 sex crimes per perpetrator before being caught.

•Nearly 63% of illegal alien sex offenders had been deported on another offense prior to committing the sex crime.

•Only 2% of the illegal alien sex offenders in one study had no history of criminal behavior, beyond crossing the border illegally.

•In Operation Predator, ICE arrested and deported 6,085 illegal alien pedophiles. Some studies suggest each pedophile molests average of 148 children. If so, that could be as many as 900,580 victims.

•Nobody knows how big the Sex Slave problem is but it is enormous.

•The very brutal MS-13 gang has over 15,000 members and associates in at least 115 different cliques in 33 states.

•The overall financial impact of illegal alien crimes is estimated at between $14.4 and $81 billion or more per year. Factor in the crime as a result of the cocaine and other drugs being smuggled in and the number may reach $150 billion per year.

Where does Rubio come off berating Trump for citing FACTS?

[[Congressman Steve King (R-IA) estimates that illegal alien drunk drivers kill 13 Americans every day — that’s a death toll of 4,745 per year.[4]

The 23 percent criminal traffic offenders figure is only part of the overall picture. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, another 23 percent, more than 43,000 illegal aliens, were convicted of drug offenses. The violent crime category of assault, robbery, sexual assault, and family offenses comes to 12 percent. The non-violent crime grouping of larceny, fraud, and burglary totaled seven percent, and on the list goes — equaling 100 percent of illegal aliens who have been through the criminal justice system and inflicted thousands to millions in cost per alien on the system, for issues having nothing to do with their illegal entry into the country]]

Actually, there is an enormous number of illegal Irish in Boston and NYC. The "official" estimate is 50,000, but the real number is much higher than that.

They need to go home and get in the back of the line just like all of the others.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t happening.

It is.

They are highly concentrated in New York and Boston. The "official" number is 50,000 Irish illegals, but the real number is more like 150,000. About 80% of them are in New York City.

How are these folks sneaking into the east coast? This sounds like the 1840s.

>someone who’s undocumented. Usually they know more than one. They also know that if weren’t for them and other immigrants

This is the method of their deception: Sentence one admits we’re talking about illegal immigrants; immediately sentence two shifts to talking about the productive contributions of ->legal<- immigrants.

The equation of the two is the Big Lie here. It imputes, falsely, value onto illegals; and it conflates legal immigrants (lots of us) with illegals in an attempt to cause guilt in the reader.

I will listen to these people when (ha) they can document the net productivity of people from the seven nations even Zero cited as terror risks.

In the meantime I continue to support robust quotas of immigration visas from countries that can vet their citizens where such visas lead to citizenship; and wish to abolish all indentured servitude (migrant worker and H1B) visas.

Just as with the Mexicans and Asians (and Asians entering the US at Pacific ports are actually a larger source of illegals right now than Mexicans) there is an organized crime pipeline to get them smuggled into the ports, usually in containers.

They are still just as illegal as the Mexicans and those from the Middle East, and they should be deported too.

Yep. Mexican has nothing to do with this. There are millions of people all over the Earth who are waiting, some of them for nearly a decade, to become Americans legally. Some of them face significant oppression and danger in their home countries. They don't deserve to be lumped in with the gate crashers, and they shouldn't be shut out because of them either.

Immigrants are not the problem. The problem has been trespassing foreign nationals.

“There are millions of people all over the Earth who are waiting, some of them for nearly a decade, to become Americans legally. Some of them face significant oppression and danger in their home countries.”

I think the real issue is not what the “waiting millions” want, but rather what do the 300 plus million current American citizens want and need. There have to be practical limitations to the number of immigrants we ALLOW INTO OUR COUNTRY. The idea that somehow we have an OBLIGATION to take a single immigrant is just nonsense! This country does not have the capacity to take unlimited numbers of aliens before we risk the complete loss of control of our country and our real values. I am sorry there are parts of the world where life is problematic, but that is not our problem to fix. America is a special place because of our citizens and their view of our Constitution. We are in very real danger of substantial permanent irreversible damage to our way of life if we don’t re-evaluate our whole immigration program, and if we don’t effectively deal with the unlawful, continuing influx of people across our Southern Border. Trump is right, we are not getting Mexico’s best and brightest. We are getting the bottom of Mexico’s barrel and it needs to stop, and those here illegally forced to return to their own country. Mexico’s “leadership” has abused us in order to take care of their own inability to create a country that can effectively use it’s citizens to run it’s own economy.

If true, toss em... however, I can tell you, even if those numbers are true they are a drop in the bucket as far as a percentage of the illegals here.
