Many of us on this site are Catholic and TOTALLY disagree with this pope hoisted on us are we supposed to give up the religion we were raised in because of him, even more than that the church covered up the disgraceful pedophile behavior of priests YET we still attend our churches because that is the religion we were raised in!!!

He said that Gay marriage is the law of the land? Could the congress repeal the law the courts made?

Congress sets law, the Supreme Court reviews to meet Constitutional standards when a case is presented....The Court does not set law....

If he answered no, he would have been required to recuse himself when the case came before the court....

Not to mention he would never be confirmed.

So effectively, by stating he will follow the law when considering a previous ruling, he now is open to consider new cases.....

These kind of questions of Supreme Court nominees are simply trap questions....to either bury their appointment or remove them from considering a case....

This article is based on his recent testimony.

As I watched it live, I too raised my eyebrows, thinking some of his assurances to the libs went far beyond appeasement.

Only time will tell, as I’m betting on several Dems pushing him beyond the 60 threshold.

Hasn’t the Supreme Court ever reversed itself?

Don’t matter now, he’s all but in, and you and I can’t do squat about it.

Yes, you're right, a Catholic choosing to remain in the Catholic Church worldwide while Francis is Pope in Rome is just like Neil Gorsuch actively joining the most liberal Episoplian Church he can find in his hometown, happily joining one with an insane socialist woman "priest".

Likewise, look at the example of Texans who choose to remain American citizens while OBAMA was President of THIS country. Obviously, the fact they did so means its OKAY for a New York voter to actively ELECT Bill DeBlasio as the mayor of the city they live in. No difference between the New York DeBlasio voter and the Texan remaining American while Obama is in Washington D.C., right?

Good question: 10 Overturned Supreme Court Cases

American law operates under the doctrine of stare decisis, which means that prior decisions should be maintained -- even if the current court would otherwise rule differently -- and that lower courts must abide by the prior decisions of higher courts. The idea is based on a belief that government needs to be relatively stable and predictable. This means that overturning a Supreme Court decision is very difficult. There are two ways it can happen:

States can amend the Constitution itself. This requires approval by three-quarters of the state legislatures -- no easy feat. However, it has happened several times.

The Supreme Court can overrule itself. This happens when a different case involving the same constitutional issues as an earlier case is reviewed by the court and seen in a new light, typically because of changing social and political situations. The longer the amount of time between the cases, the more likely this is to occur (partly due to stare decisis).

That is true but he makes me nervous anyway.. Maybe I’ll feel better when he is on the bench and see where he sides.. I hope he sides on our side and not the left side..
