I remember his gang of 6 lecturing us around 2003 that we shouldn’t use the nuclear option or else the dems would use it when they got back in power. They didn’t use it, Dems got back into power, and mostly gutted it anyway.

McCain said changing the rules would be a body blow to the institution, adding he thinks it puts them on a slippery slope. The Senate has been a joke for years. The slippery slope began with the 17th amendment, which called for the direct election of U.S. Senators in all states (states had previously appointed or elected them as they wished).
Democrats who politicized the confirmation process destroyed whatever credibility the Senate ever had.
