Saw him in person....when off stage...just like a good, kind, wonderful father.
RIP.
PC and the left is dying as well.
I seriously doubt today’s campus snowflakes would even allow Rickles to do his routine. His was one of a kind... RIP.
He has always been one of my favorites.
He was actually not my favorite comedian, but he was sure one of a kind as you said... RIP indeed
I feel like Bob Newhart is on deck now. They were best buddies and their families even took vacations together. Perhaps not surprisingly.
I read somewhere, that he and Bob Newhart we great friends. What a pair.
Don’t worry, there are still good standups out there. As long as Gaffigan, Maniscalco, Mulvaney, Larry, Jeff and Jeff are around, we’re good.
The best know that everyone likes a joke if the target is oneself.
Political humor died in 2008.
I still remember the story of how he went off at Barbra Streisand (who was in the audience) for not giving her singer-sister a job. Steam was apparently coming out of her ears and Rickles said: “So whaddya gonna do about it? Not speak to me for another 20 years?”
I was in a Malibu restaurant a number of years ago and he went around shaking everyone’s hand. Such a lovely man! RIP, Don.
For fans of British tv, Tim Pigott-Smith died yesterday, age 70. He was the lead in the tv series “The Jewel in the Crown.”
I miss Steve Allen.
I didn’t like him when I was young. It wasn’t until I got much older — mature adult when I started liking him.
Nears I can figure out is you have to have lived some to appreciate him.
Rickles was the best. I love that story that Sinatra told about him. Rickles was at a restaurant in NYC on a date with a woman— who later became his wife of over 50 years. Sinatra was dining at the same restaurant. Rickles went over and asked Sinatra, “Hey Frank, I’m out on a date with a woman and she won’t believe I know Frank Sinatra. Can you come over and say ‘hi’?” So after Sinatra is finished eating he walks over to Rickles’ table and says, “Hey Don”. Rickles waves him off and says, “Not now Frank, can’t’ you see I’m eating?!”
That was one of the best and one I was going to post when I got through the replies - glad I waited. You did a better job than I would have....

Be of good cheer. We still have Jackie Mason.
LOL, that’s funny.
Run Silent Run Deep.

Best sub movie EVER
