Yeah, if you want to call them submarines.

Well, they do submerge and most times they come up, too.

. . . and we know this because the last time they fought any significant hostile action was when? - and I don't mean lighting off medium range (at the most) missiles into the sea.

Kim's going to get a bullet in the ear before his little fiefdom is allowed to fight South Korea, China, the US and now Russia has sent a pretty impressive frigate to SK, - possibly a sub as well since surface ships are regularly accompanied - at least in my day they were

It is like the Economy. The longer you keep propping up a bad deal the harder it is to deal with it when it crashes

Trump isn’t attacking NK he is sending a very loud visual message. This isn’t Obama, this is Trump.

I think maybe so. Trump made a deal with yin whatshisname at Mar a Lago the details of which, I am sure, were worked out by generals on both sides of the Pacific.

You don’t answer a question with a question. One more time, ya don’t think the U.S. has anything to do with it?

Btw, this goes way beyond Seoul. If no one does nothing, NK eventually develops delivery systems that eventually go global.

Ya see any problem with that?

N. Korea can destroy Seoul (25.6 million metro area) in 2 hours with artillery;

No, they can't.

Little of the Norks' artillery can reach further than the northern suburbs of Seoul.

The area in which said artillery that can reach the northern suburbs is located is not a huge area, and the South can put at least 400 combat aircraft in that area. If they allow the Japanese to help out, that's at least 500 combat aircraft. Plus the South and US ground forces will be going after the Norks' artillery with their own. If the Norks go after civilian areas, the Allied counterfire will be free to plaster the Norks. Meanwhile the US can guarantee air superiority, and effect decapitation of Nork command and control.

It'd take a brave Nork commander to wheel his artillery out of his cave...

I'd be more worried about whether the Norks could manage to hit Seoul with a chem weapon on a rocket with, say, 100-200 miles range. Are there any missile defenses in theater to counter that threat? I'd think our ships would be too far away.

It certainly gives a good look at McMaster’s firsthand experience with war.

I don’t really fault people for not knowing about that huge Iraq War I tank battle because it just doesn’t seem to get much publicity. Odd because it was such a major part of the defeat of Saddam’s army. Instead all we hear about is The Highway of Death.

“I am all warred out”

Even if it’s true, that’s the very last thing you want your enemy to think.

I’m not OK with that, but I wonder if the Generals are as dedicated to Dear Leader as we assume. It’s one thing to know if you fall asleep during a speech, you’ll be dispatched via an anti-aircraft gun. It’s another to know that an order from Fat Kim will assure the North is a smoking ruin.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the tension ratchets up and it appears China is not going to back up the North, that Kim has a fatal accident.
