Let’s Work - Mick Jagger

No sitting down on your butt
The world don’t owe you
No sitting down in a rut
I wanna show you

Don’t waste your energy
On making enemies
Just take a deep breath
And work your way up

Let’s work, be proud
Stand tall, touch the clouds
Man and woman, be free
Let’s work, kill poverty

La, la, la
Work your way up

Let’s work, be proud
Stand tall, touch the clouds
Man and woman, be free
Let’s work, kill poverty

You’re sitting down on your butt
And your get greedy
You start to lose your nuts
Don’t you look seedy
Can generosity bring you humility
So take a deep breath

Ain’t gonna sweat for you
Ain’t gonna sigh for you
Ain’t gonna cry for you
If you’re lazy

Ain’t gonna slave for you
Ain’t gonna hurt for you
It just won’t work for you
If you’re lazy

Let’s work, be proud
Stand tall, touch the clouds
Let’s work, let’s eat
Let’s live in ecstasy
Man and woman, be free
Let’s work, kill poverty

Let’s work, be proud
Stand tall, touch the clouds
Man and woman, be free
Let’s work, let’s work

Get down in the dirt and let’s work
Get down in the dirt and let’s work
Get up, be free
Get down in the dirt, let’s work

Get down in the dirt, let’s work
Get down in the dirt
Take off your shirt
Get down in the dirt
Let’s work

According to Wikipedia, he is the band's main lyricist.

If that is in anyway in line with "democrat" thinking, Peart has gone insane.

The lyrics are*absolutely* libertarian.

Hell's bells, he wrote "Anthem" and was/is a big fan of Ayn Rand.

He talks about how he was mercilessly attacked by progressives as some sort of Nazi.

I wonder if he has truly slipped a cog, or he just says he's a democrat, to get people off his back.

NOBODY turns leftward in their old age. It makes no sense.

He vehemently denounces Rand now. He says, “My God, that was 40 years ago that I identified with that.” He calls himself a “bleeding heart, open borders libertarian.” His book about his motorcycle trip across Canada, Mexico and the United States shows love for the former two and utter contempt for the citizens of the US.

I don’t know about that, but Ramble On leans heavily on Tolkien. He even namechecks Gollum.

His book, Ghost Rider, was disgusting. Railing against “fat, stupid” Americans. Let’s see your pocketbook without America, pal. His main complaint seems to be that Mexicans didn’t know who the #### he was, so they left him alone, but stupid cow Americans dared to speak warmly to him since they recognized him.

If being socially conservative (as in waiting for the right person of the other sex to come along) is included, Jackson Browne’s “Hold On Hold Out” (a truly beautiful song), and Phil Collins “You Can’t Hurry Love” all make the grade.

Lyrically, Argent’s “It’s Only Money” includes the interesting lyric “For every hand that reaches out to give, a hand reaches out to take”. (Think about it.)

Peart's libertarian days are far behind him, IMHO.

"Like I said, "Oh, how the mighty have fallen."

I'm not saying the guy's a rabid Marxist necessarily—but close enough.

What he said about Republicans (=conservatives) showed me that his perception of American life "on the ground" was woefully inadequate. It's like he gets his current American worldview from the American evening news...

TAXMAN - Beatles

Let me tell you how it will be
There’s one for you, nineteen for me
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don’t take it all
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah I’m the taxman

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.

Don’t ask me what I want it for
If you don’t want to pay some more
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman
And you’re working for no one but me.

Rudy Sarzo was the pioneer of looking at the camera and licking the neck of your bass....true story.

Blue Collar Man by Styx. (Work ethic)

Yeah, it starts off with “Give me a job”, but there are also lines like “I’m not a charity case”, working “long nights”, and “Make me respectable, man”.

Rudy Sarzo of Quiet Riot was a guest on a panel we had in LA about how rock helped combat communism. I’d say he’s moderate-to-conservative.

My parents were Birchers back in the mid 1960's. They were convinced that rock 'n' roll was an instrument of the devil and the CPUSA, intended to corrupt the morals of youth and to promote the drug culture and anti-VietNam war fervor.

I agree there was significant anti-war sentiment in some music, some music meant to suggest drug tripping, and plenty of good ol' sex-by-inuendo (as thought THAT never happened until the '60's - yeah, right), but I am intrigued to learn more of Rick Sarzo's take on how Rock 'n' Roll was instrumental in destroying communism.

Surely it has more to do with things other than just Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album, or Billy Joel's tour through the USSR in 1987 accompanied by his then- (and still) gorgeous former wife, Christy Brinkley.

There are some great documentaries on Rock music in Communist Poland during the 1980s, one is called "Beats of Freedom", and another one called "The Children of Jarocin". (Jarocin was the location of a Woodstock-like music festival in Poland)
