Just this morning I was listening to “Video killed the Radio Star”.

And I thought “How ironic. Video has been dead for what? 20 years now?”

It’s all digital now. I have relatively a few number of digital songs in my library however. About 800.

I love Billy Joel. The critics never did, but I never cared about the critics. Especially Rolling Stone. He wouldn’t make it now, but the crap that does make it now is disposable pap.

Elton is correct. And it isn’t just pop and rock music that has been adversely affected.

Nashville County Music sucks also. Big time.

People made fun of “The Downeaster Alexa” when it came out, but I thought it was a terrific song............

“His fame was fired solely by the glamor of Evil.”

Funny, I thought it was because of well-produced, catchy, lyrical songs that people have been listening to for almost 45 years.

By all means tell us whom you consider the “real” talent out there.

Billy Joel also had one of the best bands backing him up. Liberty DeVito is an absolute monster on drums.

“the first time I heard “Prelude/Angry Young Man”, I became a big fan.”

That song is even better live w. Liberty DiVitto on the drums ... best recording I can think of off hand would be that live Russian album “KOHUEPT” (concert in Russian). What Liberty did to that song and “Ballad of Billy the Kid” is simply awesome :-).

Disagree about Adele. Interesting voice but that’s all. She has this one note that resonates in a wierd way no matter what song she’s singing, almost like she lands on it and the effort goes out of her. Like “bwuhhhhh”, it’s hard to describe but very annoying. And that one song that was popular for a while, there was no way to sing along with it. Hello, I think. And that song about making you feel her love, sounds like something you would hear from a psycho chick.

I agree with you there. Place I work plays 70s, 80s, 90s pop type crap, heavy on (no pun intended) Christopher Cross.

I liked his songs, but I am more inclined to be less accepting of his supposed gayness than his weight.

Well as you can see from #66, I concur about Liberty. I put only Keith Moon ahead of Liberty as my favorite drummer.

Garage sales and estate sales are AWASH in CDs. 25 cents to a dollar.

I’m building a massive CD rack just to get this pile I’ve amassed organized.

Except I haven’t seen a music video in 20 years or more. Even MTV doesn’t show music videos as far as I know and that is their name. They were a huge deal in the eighties but by the late nineties they seemed pretty well irrelevant. Do major music performers even make videos anymore?

Yeah, once you hear a live version of a Billy Joel song, it’s hard to go back and listen to the studio version. I wore out the grooves to “Songs In the Attic”.

“And, oh by the way, the fact that I can’t buy a CD of a 40-year-old album for less than 20 bucks is an absolute crime.”

Well, that’s probably because it’s only like you and 5 other people on the planet buying CDs anymore, so you are bearing all the manufacturing costs :)

Bruno Mars does. But he does it to go with his retro music style, as a dual homage to old 80s funk.

Now Bruno has some talent. He can even shred on a guitar, not quite as good as Prince was, but not bad.
