If you were a landlord, compelled by law to offer a certain number of "affordable housing" units, who would you rather rent to? Some yuppies? Or a Section 8 welfare mom and her string of gangsta-thug boyfriends?
OMG! In NYC it is the birthright of any person of color to live in one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Last year there was a news story about new public housing units filling up with Asians; the black “professional victims” were turning out in force because they were entitled to that housing...
Now on the news the children of the “professional victims” are already lining up for their free schools supplies.
If my observations growing up there are any indication, most of the rent stabilized apartments in NYC are now occupied by heirs and not the original tenants. It’s basically a mini aristocracy established by the first set of people to vote themselves that privilege.
“...160 tenants living in affordable units”
Gotta LOVE the Left. “Affordable” units. What the hell does that mean? If Trump Tower can find people to pay $20k a month to live there, then, by the same definition, those units are ‘affordable’. Likewise, if some units rent out for $200/month, there are likely homeless people in NYC who cannot even make that payment - does that mean the $200 units are not affordable.
Don’t let the Left STEAL THE LANGUAGE. The headline has it right - “rent subsidized”, also “low income housing” are the correct terms...not something as subjective as ‘affordable’.
That is insane. The Fair Tax would eliminate fraud like that with better efficiency and less regulation.
Too much government/bureaucracy can lead to fraud. However, not enough regulation can cause a subprime housing crises like the one in 2008.
Our basic humanity requires us to reduce the amount of people living on the streets as much as possible.
So even though government is necessary, it's not necessary to the extent seen in New York. It's all about balance.
And doormen, I mean doorpersons.
If you only make 100G in Manhattan you are poor.
...
Especially considering that’s before taxes.
But depending upon where you live, commuting costs may well wipe out the difference, not to mention the wear and tear on your body.
Surely no need for subsidized living arrangements if you earn such a high amount.
They gentrified Brooklyn (Williamsburg) and parts of Queens, and I guarantee a large percent of those new residents also vote Dem :(
Especially if you have to go to/through Penn Station 😷
