Oh please don't assume anything at all about me; especially since you have no idea just what I know and have read. You most assuredly didn't "make me look up Emma's bio" !

OTOH, I heartily suggest that YOU read Stephen Birmingham's series of books about the history of American Jews : THE GRANDEES, OUR CROWD, and PEOPLE LIKE US, all of which I read around 45 years ago, when they came out.

In the third grade, every school in N.Y. state, public, private, and parochial, used to have a several months long section on the town or city the school was in. Since I went to school in NYC, I learned the geography and history of NYC and about the famous people who had lived there and what they were known for.

I have a very good memory, so remember/know a lot of things about a varied number of topics.

Of course there were no "COMMUNISTS" anywhere, in the 1880s America! OTOH...there WERE the forerunners, i.e. anarchists, Marxists and later Trotskyites ( that was decades later though) and attempting to claim that I am an Anti-Semite is patently ridiculous!

Did you convert to Judaism ?

Did you have to learn about famous Jewish people, in a conversion class, or just took it upon yourself to learn about some of them, on your own? I'm not being snide, I'm asking out of curiosity.

Congrats on being married for 60 years.

Thank you! Re Sarah, I’ve mentioned “monotone” and “blah” here and was severely lambasted. I don’t see fear as much as ennui. Slouchy.

Steven Miller shows us how the media should be handled.

Guess she got her job as payback for her dad’s support. There are so many others who would be better.

Since Emma was born in 1849, she would have been 14 in 1863 which was a full TWO YEARS prior to the sculptor, Bartholdi even being influenced by a prof, to even think about building Lady Liberty!

When was grandson was quite little, he became fascinated by the Statue of Liberty, so we took him there then and a couple of times after the first trip, bought him all kinds of things pertaining to her ( books [which I read to him], foam hats, etc. ), and even dug out some of the things we had bought for our progeny long before that, for him to have.

If you'd like a book list, re the Statue of Liberty, just drop me a note in FRmail.

Yes, I agree, Trump appreciated early Huck support and the appreciation pay off came with the much less talented daughter being employed.

The standard around here in many cases is damn low for what passes as a class act and competency! Sarah is none of those things.

Miller is.

(If he were not so needed on the policy side of the Trump presidency, I’m certain he would be running the Briefing show at the White House.)

Spicer could have been good if he had felt really turned loose and tuned in, privy to the president’s state of mind, schedule and tactics. He wasn’t. Sean and Reince were not inside the confidence circle of Trump. Trump was leery of their past and the Establishment way of doing business.
