In 1979 I had a friend who was at sea two days after completing basic training. He fell down a hatch and broke his leg. He had a compound fracture of the right tibia. After he got the cast off and did some physical therapy he was given a medical discharge since one leg was now longer than the other.
I don’t think he even claims to be a veteran since other than basic training almost his entire period of enlistment was spent in a hospital bed.
Note: since my eyes were too bad I couldn’t enlist at all so I have no way to verify what he says is true. But, he proudly used to call himself the clumsiest sailor in the history of the USN.
Any documentation of that????

I agree. I joined in 70 but never went to Vietnam. Got assigned to Germany for whatever reason. I know I didn’t go, and I would instantly know I was lying if anything even vaguely insinuating that I did came out of my mouth.

Any politician who trumpets his service during Vietnam in the National Guard or Reserves is a Vietnam service dodger. They knew neither was being sent to Vietnam and could escape the draft and Vietnam service by being a guardsman or reservist. Those of us who served without being forced to (I am post Vietnam, post draft and too young for Vietnam) have contempt for these folks, or at least I do.

You gotta love how the "weaponizing" of the IRS, DoJ, and FBI against Republican opposition doesn't bother the Democrats, it's the "weaponizing" of the investigations into those things that bothers them.
