Medicaid takes up about a quarter of the state budget. Hartford can’t get a state bailout. There’s no money.

Connecticut is every bit as bankrupt as Hartford. What are they waiting for?

I’l tell you. Federal bailouts to protect them from their own profligate spending habits.

You can not pay people pensions for thirty or more years at a higher wage than they made on the work that between 20-30 years. At some point the private sector worker can be taxed no higher and they flee or simply stop working.

My understanding is that these idiots are talking about putting both education and pension expenses on towns that “can afford it”. What happens when people want out of those towns and no one wants to purchase their homes? Won’t lower property values decrease property tax revenue? CT is already losing relatively wealthy retirees and others who have had it.

All those local government employee unions who milked outrageous benefits from their municipalities need to take massive haircuts. Unions for government workers are unconscionable and what is bankrupting our local governments.

The entire state already lives off of my county. They love spending the money of the local-to-me rich.

I always get a sardonic laugh out of the screwy situations LIBs create...and wallow in. Fools. n It is pathetic that they always seek “more money” rather than solve their idiocy and lunacy.

CT used to be one of the wealthiest states.
Then they decided they liked fraudulently documented foreigners more than the citizens.......

"Hartford is over $400,000,000 in debt."

Appears that they spent a lot of money they didn't have to buy votes from people that don't pay taxes.

Now the immoral leaches expect those that work for a living to bail them out. No way Jose!

Is Harford by chance a Sanctuary City?

That is just one of the ways CT has gone downhill.

First, the corrupt GOPe knocked the state down—and since then the corrupt Dems have about finished it off.

I gotta move. If just for my sanity.

Virginia was a beautiful and sane place until just a few years ago.
Northeastern transplants and illegal aliens are turning it into the same kind of cesspool.
There aren’t many places left to move to.

It doesn’t help when they offer tax breaks for big companies to re-locate; that just puts the extra road maintenance and such on the local “makers”. On top of that, the company is often required to employ a certain number of locals - regardless of whether or not those locals are employable.

That is also happening in NJ, and in response to your question: Some people outright abandon the homes, while others find some “replacement Americans” as tenants until they can sell it.

So true. Many friends there are disgusted and they can’t unload their homes even if they have jobs in other places. It’s a buyer’s market now for sure! We sold in 2011 and went to Texas.

Hope my fellow FReepers will get some luck cuz they get no relief with kick-the-can, wanna-be Dem Pres contender Malloy.
