Trump threat to NFL over 'massive' tax breaks
BBC News ^ | October 10, 2017

US President Donald Trump has called for the National Football League (NFL) to be stripped of tax advantages.

In a tweet he complained the league had received "massive" tax breaks, while some of its players had been "disrespecting" the national anthem. The teams pay tax, but have often received public support to build stadiums.

The NFL league office, which oversees rules, referees and the college draft, gave up its tax-exempt status in 2015.

"Why is the NFL getting massive tax breaks while at the same time disrespecting our Anthem, Flag and Country? Change tax law!"

Trump knows exactly when to double down. How is the left going to defend these 0.1 percenters and entitled corporate welfare cases?

Didn’t the NFL Lose their Tax Exempt status a few years ago in 2014 or 2015?

I think they voluntarily reorganized into a for profit corporation rather than a tax free industry association - and then made sure that the income and expenses for the league office matched closely enough so they owed little or no taxes. The teams themselves are the profit making corporations.

From another article: The NFL has historically filed as a 501 (c)(6) non-profit, which provides tax-exemptions for “business leagues, chambers of commerce, real estate boards, boards of trade, and professional football leagues.”

But, but....Goodell deeply cares about his player’s concern for social justice... ;-)

(when do the NFL owners finally fire this useless clown?...does he need to lose them one billion dollars, five billion dollars, ten billion dollars?)

I think the next stadium request is going to be debated more and may be turned down when suggested.

This is a huge loss of power of the NFL.
