Did he volunteer to be a VBS helper, a Bible study leader, or both? I’ve heard different reports, and it makes a difference.
If to be a VBS helper it could have been to scout out the church.
His kid isn’t old enough to be in VBS, right?

It's not about you, it's about them. Probably have a guilty conscience and don't like to be reminded of the fact that they're sinners, so they try to belittle Christians or equate them with extremist muslims.

Christians generally, I believe and hope, understand the truth that Jesus spoke when he said, “As sin increases, so shall my grace’.
Christians will be spared nothing and that we “endure ‘til the end”, as He hoped, is our fateful and faithful charge.

Yeah, could be. Or maybe he had a stint where he was trying to “find religion” and became atheist when it didn’t work for him. I don’t know. So many different ways the story could go.

Worked at a water park as security too... another job that would put him in close proximity to kids. On the other hand with his education and problems there may not have been many jobs available to him. I’m more than a little concerned about anyone hiring someone who was dishonorably discharged as a security guard.
