He actually served in the Army eight years. Though he didn’t see combat, that is nothing to sneeze at. If he had been just as involved and had that eight years, he still would have enjoyed a great reputation.
We’ve had a couple of posers here on FR as well.
Some claiming all sorts of things.
But somehow they always seem to trip up on the details.
As I like to say, I spent my time drinking beer and chasing Frauleins. Pretty much summed up my military career as a treadhead in the Pearhead Division (3rd AD).
I still like the one who claimed to have been “buried for days” in the rubble of the Marine barracks in Beirut.
His FR account is still alive, but has not been used since January.
I check it every so often.
It that bug moves, I intend to be there to squash it.
I admit, I am still vastly interested in hearing his reasoning for trying to claim what he did.
I know you are talking about Freepers, not the jackass in the article. And you probably know this, but this yahoo's phony details were big enough to trip a tank.
I was in the 10th Group during the same period this joker was in the Army. Way back in the glorious Reagan years. Things might have changed a great in the meantime, but Specialist was an E-4 back then. Pretty low rank for 8 years of service. I left an E-5, Sgt, after 3 years.
Perhaps more depressing than this jerk himself is the fact that it took so long to identify his crimes. For crying out loud, he claimed in his bio that:
"In August of 1982, [Command Sergeant Major] Wright was ordered to Fort Bragg, N.C., where he became a member of the U.S. Military Special Operations Command for over 25 years."
I dare say probably few/nobody has been a CSM for 25 years. It would probably take that long to achieve that extremely high non-comm rank. Especially during years where there was little combat even going on for US troops.
Everyone signs up for eight years of call up... Some serve two active - 6 inactive.
A friend of mine told me that he had spent 4 years in the Army stationed in Germany. When I asked about his military experiences he told me he been assigned to the Remington Raiders! “Wow” I thought!!! He then explained that he did a hell of a lot of high pressure typing in the payroll office!
Eight years and only a specialist.
I was a tank commander in the Napoleonic Wars. Murat was my driver,
“I was a tank commander...”
Yes, I remember you. I used to sleep with your driver’s wife, Carol BonedApart, while he was getting his fancy hair curled.
I like to say, of my 6 yrs in the USN.....”Some gave all, others gave a lot, I gave the minimally accepted amoint for a 6 yr enlistment.
“I was with the Green Berets, Special Unit Battalions... Commando Airborne Tactics... Specialist Tactics Unit Battalion. Yeah, it was real hush hush. I was Agent Orange, Special Agent Orange, that was me.”
That is correct....I enlisted for 4+2 (got a guarunteed promo out if bootcamp and and skipped from E2 past E3 straight to E4 afyer finishing my 1st sonar school.... 5 months from E1 to E4....)
I was on hook for another 2 yrs inactive reserves (got the pink ID card atill) after that.
At the time (enlistment ended 8-4-92) the rules basically said tjey had to reinstate the draft beforr they called me back....barring a critical need for my specific job.
Presto PO here, too. Spent a year in electronics and sonar school in San Diego in ‘66 - ‘67. SQS-26 BX. Played a lot of pool in the barracks. :)
I actually know a guy whose dad died in '14 and buried in Fort Snelling, MN. He was an Army Korea/Vietnam vet. Sergeant Major. His uniform had as much salad and stripes as the phony guy above, but it was real.
At one point in Korea, he was tossed into the dead truck along with a bunch of stiffs. But he was not dead, just frozen nearly to death. Took a long time to recover. Physically, anyway. Mentally, he was rock solid to the end. Later served in Vietnam.
The mentioned poster claimed to have been buried in the rubble of the Marine barracks in Beirut in the 1983 barracks bombing.
Problem with this is, nobody was pulled out alive after noon the same day.
This is documented.
