I think you are wrong. When I took biology, the word gender was never used. I heard it a lot in Spanish class, though. Oddly, in my French and my biology studies, we used pretty much the same terminology. In zoology, we had to determine whether every single specimen was male or female. And in French, we had to learn which words were male and which were female. As I recall, whenever we were talking about sex in biology, it was very much in the reproductive sense. And that is the way I use the word. Except that I prefer euphemisms.

That little accent mark above the ‘e’ in San Jose State University is a tell.

Just look up the definition of the word gender and the definition of the word sex. You will find that gender is associated with language and/sociology, and sex is related to the science of biology.

There is also a very rare possibility of an XY identical twin split that results in one child missing the Y chromosome and having only one X. That girl will have Turner’s syndrome. I also remember reading about a similar situation where a boy will have only a Y chromosome and no X, but I can’t remember what causes it. In either case, the children can develop more or less normally, but usually need hormone supplements to reach full maturity.
