“it’s worth noting that this weekend’s games featured matchups that might not have grabbed the casual fan at first glance. Even if Vikings-Saints was the greatest game ever (and it was pretty damn good), it wasn’t going to beat last year’s Cowboys-Packers showdown. Falcons-Eagles was likewise less appealing than last year’s Falcons-Seahawks matchup. Some franchises and players are simply more appealing to the average American than others. When the Cowboys miss the playoffs but the Jaguars make it, or when Aaron Rodgers stays home but Case Keenum doesn’t, or when Carson Wentz gets hurt and leaves us with Nick Foles, ratings are going to suffer a bit. That may not account for the entire drop, but it certainly explains some of it.”

The Kneelers wouldn’t understand that TV viewership drives their salaries. The advertisers pay the TV stations who pay the NFL, who share the revenues with the teams to provide the funding for salaries and bonuses. It’s all based on viewership. The companies that run ads on TV also hire players for endorsements based on viewership.

That money isn’t about to dry up too soon, but it is certainly going to shrink significantly. Boo hoo

Stopped watching football back in the 80’s when unsportsman like conduct became the norm and actually even encouraged. All the gyrating and dancing around like jackasses when one them scores a touchdown. What the behavior has evolved into 30 years later is beyond the pale and just vindicates my decision to forsake the NFL. I guess I was ahead of the curve.
